Wow, I've finished goal 1 and its the biggest data set Ive ever used, with 1697 cases!
Now to start with the descriptives!
evening peeps :)
Got sidetracked in the afternoon, made the mistake of meeting someone for coffee which turned into a shopping trip (for her). I was so tired when I got home, I had to rest up for few hours (I'm still recovering from an illness) so was 7pm by the time I got round to doing any proper amount of work. Still, managed to do more than I thought I would today, so it's not all bad :)
Lesson learnt: don't throw coffees in with people you haven't seen in ages in the middle of the day, near shops.
Goal 1: Write general plan for introduction.
Goal 2: Write massively scary e-mail to famous historian, asking if she will be a referee (she once said casually that she would be happy to write references for me, but the reality of actually asking is hard!)
I seem to have a policy of writing a scary e-mail a day at the moment. If you don't ask, you don't get, but still makes me feel a bit vulnerable.
Morning everyone,
I thought I'd contribute to this thread as I seem to have hit a major stumbling block...I need to hand in a draft lit review 2 weeks on Monday to my sups and am having major issues with actually getting to the writing & structuring - I know what I want to say, I'm just having trouble saying it! It's so frustrating!!
Anyway, one day at a time!!
Today's goals are:
1. Revise plan & break down the sections of the review into more manageable chunks
2. Make a start with at least one of the smaller areas and start to write
Hope everyone has a good day!
Sx
good luck with the email cecef and hello to sarah!
I have a dentist appointment at 11.30 this morning which is annoying - I know myself and I know I won't be able to really do much work until I'm back from that. Anyways.
Goal 1: Work out what descriptives I'm supposed to be doing
Goal 2: do descriptives.
Good morning!
Yesterday I didn't manage my goal of writing all afternoon, I was tired and gave up just after 3 and did some marking instead. Instead of setting myself up for failure today I am going to start with the manageable goal of writing solidly for 2 tomatoes.
good plan star shaped. If I look back at the original post, that's why I started this thread - to give myself ONE goal, but I've slipped into making 3-4 and then never completing them.
Yes, it's good to have a plan of what you're going to do for the whole day, but can be demotivating if you set yourself tasks which you don't get round to.
Goal number 1 done. I am now going to continue writing for 3 tomatoes!
This thread is such a good idea as I got up early and now it's 10:30 and realised have spent a couple of hours faffing about on Internet - well, that's the computer warmed up! So having a couple of goals sounds like a good idea. Here goes:
1) Do redrafting that sup suggested
2) Photocopy
Here goes...
gah, I don't feel like I've got very far at all this morning. I'm working on a huge section at the moment, so I am going to print it off so I can see what I've written rather than scrolling on the screen, which should hopefully help.
But the next goal is to work out and have lunch before getting back to it.
I've been to the dentist, done the weekly shop (£90!!!) and have eaten lunch. Going to go get a yogurt and get on with my database. I'm a bit stuck actually, but I need to get a few things done so I can email sup to admit that I'm stuck.
ah crap - I've done my second database, done a few quick stats to see what trends are coming out and looks like there are no good differences between my groups :-( which is going to mean a very weak middle thesis chapter.
