The One Goal Thread

Well I think I'm giving up for today. I've done a lot of thinking about my work -which was very necessary and done quite a bit, so feeling in a good place to get on with things tomorrow.

S

I've had enough for today too...I seem to have done a lot of reading but not much writing...hopefully a good night's sleep and a fresh pair of eyes in the morning should spur me on to produce something tomorrow!

Morning all.

Today is mainly about writing for me. So the first goal is to write solidly between now and 11.30.

allo!

I'm writing up my results today - I told my sup it would be ready by today, hmmm aint gonna happen. But it would be nice to send a first draft to her by late tonight/early tomorrow.

S

Goal 1 done.

Next goal is to continue until lunch at 1.

I also have a bigger goal, of being at a stage next week where I can start talking about having sections finished, rather than setting goals of time spent working!

well I've spent all morning working out what stats I'm supposed to be doing, I've found a fancy new technique but I have left my andy field book at uni, so i've ordered another one - it actually costs less to buy the book from amazon with express delivery, than go to my uni and pick it up!

So going to get on with the OLD stats way and then when the book arrives have a go at the new stats way!

Old and new stats sounds like fun. No, really! I'm starting to get into my stats now, after crying in frustration through most of my MSc about how little I understood!

Goal 1 for today - going to the library and finding a couple of useful research methods books - is done.

Goal 2 is to read! If I can get half way through the smaller of the two books by the end of the day I'll be very happy.

aw well, for your pleasure Batfink, I'm doing a mixed ANOVA, followed by simple effects analysis (t-tests) and maybe I'll throw in a few more t-tests just for fun and then work out what I've done in terms of familywise error rate at a later date!

Finding it hard to concentrate. I think I'm hungry or cold, or both?

I've just had a supervision meeting, which went very well but made me realise just how much work I have to get done in the next few months!

First goal for today: finish abstract for poster and email to supervisors

Ooooh Sneaks, that gives me the shivers! Or maybe I'm just cold too.

The book I've set myself to read is seriously dull. Very useful, but dull. Must. make. myself. read. it!!!

S

Keep it up everyone!

I had a good morning's writing and have just had lunch. The afternoon is where I really start to run out of steam with my writing, so I will do another hour and see how it goes.

Does anyone else find it really hard writing all day? It is getting easier to write for longer now I have a small deadline to work towards but I find it really difficult to write for too long in one day.

M

I have finished the abstract and summary for the poster! I've been procrastinating over this for a month and finally got it done in a couple of hours. :-) Just waiting now for feedback from supervisors...

Next goal: lunch! Then start redrafting chapter 1.

S

Well done moonblue! Must be a good feeling to have it out of the way.

Really flagging with my writing now. So the next goal is to mark the 2 papers which I have left to do.

M

Thanks, Star-shaped. :-) It is a great feeling, but I'm annoyed with myself that it has taken me so long!

I have just finished going through my supervisors' comments on something I've written. Now on to the real hard slog ... the first 'proper' draft for chapter 1! It's in three separate sections at the moment, which need putting together somehow.

So... first goal: outline for chapter 1.

I've hit a problem. One of my variables is really skewed - problem is that I can't remove cases or antyhing, I've only got a really small sample. When I trasform it it doesn't really change. So I'm now stuck. What do you do at that point??

Was thinking of bootstrapping but my uni doesn't have SPSS 18 or the add on required :-(
