The One Goal Thread

Wow, Button, you're flying through those articles!

I'm editing my draft first year report. I need to shave about 5,000 words off. Yikes! But it's due in by the end of the day so that's my only goal for the day!

B

Goal 3 is done! Goal 4 is to read the remaining articles I need to read (there are quite a lot) before other half gets home- I think I can do this!

Batfink, I think it's because I sort of "cheat"- I've got 40 articles that I've saved as I've been going along recently- I usually just look at the title/abstract and then think it might be relevant so I save it. But as I've been going along today some aren't relevant at all, but I still count that as "skimming/reading" it, which is probably a bit naughty but it makes me feel like I'm making progress! How is your work going today?

I think that makes you a good researcher - you are able to pick out the relevant info.

I'm doing ok - my back is killing though :-(

I agree, that sounds like a good method, not cheating! I'm slower than that but it's still satisfying to get through a whole stack of them!

Sneaks, hope your back feels better soon.

I just emailed my draft first year report to my supervisors. Yay! I've really worked flat-out on this so it's such a relief! 8-)

That means that tomorrow I can take the day off. I have a lovely day out planned, me and the other half, out to a lovely touristy town about an hour from here by train. Can't wait - I've worked through so many weekends recently I know I'm really going to enjoy it! And then on Thursday I'll catch up on housework and laundry and all that nonsense, and on Friday I'll get feedback on the draft from my supervisors, and I'll have a week to turn it around and hand in the final version :-(

Oh well. Day off tomorrow. Yay!!!!!! Hope all your work goes well........

hi everyone
my goal (for tomorrow) is to get organized (again!!!!)
I feel like my head is all over the place
I didn't do any latex-ing today; catching up on some reading :-)

looking forward to TOMORROW
good night
love satchi

I did ok with the method yesterday, but still have a bit to write. so my goals for today are..

- finish method
- flow my method section and results section into one document
- 'revise' one area of info for my upcoming interview
- finish off spread sheet am working on.
- organise teaching stuff.
- email back bloke who is helping on my project, which I've not emailed back for over a week :$

jeesh, its taken me all morning to find the examples from my text to pull out for the method - must do better after lunch

P

Hola, hope all is well :-)

My goals for today are:
Finished results for chapter 5
Re-check and add to chapters 3,4 and 6. Leaving time for 5 and 7 to be checked tomorrow before sending to my supervisor.

* Puts kettle on *

well I've done goal 1. I will try and do some of the smaller goals on my laptop in front of t'telly tonight

P

Laptop infront of the TV is always a good idea Sneaks :-) I'd give it a go but mine overheats.

I've done it all :-) One more sweep to reorganise some of the descriptive stats and thats those chapter drafts done!

crap - its past 10 already! I was at my desk by 5 to 9am, but I've done the weekly shop via tesco direct - probably would have been quicker to go out and do it, but I think I spent less?

Anyway, I made a mistake yesterday - too many goals, bad idea. So one goal at a time, that's why I started the thread!

so, my goal is to add my results section to my method.

I've been completed distracted by planning my honeymoon this morning :/

Goal 1- get the last 10 articles read/skimmed and make notes if they are relevant.

ooh where are you going?

B

3 weeks in Florida :D Harry Potter themepark, ooh yes please. We're trying to do it without going via a travel agent though to save some pennies, which is why I keep getting distracted by it.

Goal 1 is done surprisingly quickly, so I'm going to rearrange my day.

Goal 2- drive to uni to get any other articles that I've missed

Goal 3- do a food shop

Goal 4- work out how to use endnote if I have time

that sounds amazing, in fact it was originally mine and hubbys choice - although we had to re-think once his mother insisted we use some crappy timeshare she had which was hours away from any of the parks.I want to go in a few years, but I get motion sick, so might have to watch hubby as he goes on all the rides!
