I'm poorly today, so I'm going to have to go easy. Goal: Read 15 journal articles, thematically organise the findings and then write a narrative review. Not really a 1 day goal, but I'll see how far I can get.
really taking it easy there Wal (sprout)
I've kind of given up! I've spoken to sup on the phone. She thinks I should submit the paper to another journal (not the one affiliated with the conference) so have emailed the conference to ask if that is ok or whether they will kind of 'own' it once submitted.
The deadline for the conference paper is Monday, so I'm kind of bored with the whole paper now, I've been working on it constantly and getting tired! Going to take my dog for a walk :-)
Just got an email to say I'm through to the first selection round at a job - but there are 3 more rounds - I definitely won't get it, there are 2 stages of psychometric tests which I SUCK at! I have no analytical/numerical/verbal skills despite doing a PhD :-(
Hello, I'm also working on finishing my quantitative chapters today.
Goal 1 (deadline- 1pm)- Finish and finalise chapter 5.
Goal 2 (ideally start around 12pm) Redo chapter 7 tables, finish and finalise chapter 7. (Deadline around 5pm)
Goal 3- (ideally start around 7pm)- Finish chapter 3 content analyses of Age and Aging journal. (My external examiner conducted a content analyses of journal articles to make his point that this research was unexplored- and following from his work, I'm doing something similar, although for three years (2006-2009) and for both learning disability and older adult UK peer reviewed journals whereas his was 2000-2002 and for learning disability American journals.
I'm desperately trying to hold back the tears. My supervisors have no confidence in me and I just wish they were more supportive and encouraging. I have less than 2 months to submission and I feel very alone
:-(
Pineapple, don't feel alone, we are all here and we are all going through the same thing :) I'm positive your supervisors believe in you otherwise you would never have got this far! They just perhaps don't show it to you. Just keep going, it sounds like it will all be over for you soon :)
Anyway, my first goal is done so onto the second after my brew.
Goal 1 finished (finally!! I hate chapter 5!)
After faffing around and adding stuff to my chapter 3, I'm half way through goal 2.
(Many thanks for the positive words Buttons!, you have no idea how much I appreciate it!).
I'm going to be working again today, I'm on a bit of a roll so I want to keep it up!
I did goal 4 yesterday but not goal 5, so goals for today are:
Goal 1- decide whether I need summary for discussion and if so write it
Goal 2- read everything I wrote yesterday and edit if necessary
Goal 3- write conclusion
ah, had a minor melt down today, joy. Goal is to get corrections for my lit review chapter finished. It's taking sooo long!
Morning all.
Today my goals are:
1. Practice presentation a couple of times
2. Travel to Cambridge
3. Check into guest house and register at conference
4. Practice presentation again
5. Early night
I wish I had some time for writing. I'm at the conference most of this week, on holiday next week and I'm panicking about how little work I have done so far this summer.
Good morning everyone-
I can't believe its Monday already and its the 2nd of August!!!! I had a major panic over the weekend- re time is seriously running out, but I'm trying my best to remain calm and positive. Although my panic status definitely increased my productivity over the weekend!
I'm planning to submit final drafts of my 3 main result chapters by Thursday of this week so here's the plan for today ........
1. Monday- am (before 1pm) Chapter 7- Final changes to tables- (My chapter 7 is huge- ie over 60 pages- but necessary given the amount of analysis!!)
2. Monday pm (around 2pm) Chapter 6- chase up reliability checks, restructure chapter 6 and double check thematic analysis codings etc etc. If necessary, revise diagrams
3. Monday am/pm-Final checks of chapter 5 before submission
If I have time......
1. Complete my directory/content analysis of learning disability homes without nursing for chapter 3- (systematic review of particular learning disability social care services)
2. Re- read first draft of chapter 8 (final result chapter)
Yep monday the 2nd of August is scaring me too! arrrrgh! So today I need to
- complete psychometric test (and probably fail it) for job application
- email person and ask for work
- surf the job sites
- email supervisor
- re-write some of smaller sections of paper
- get paper into APA format and formatted all correctly
So first goal is
- make a cup of tea and think about stupid psychometric test :-(
Ok, so I've done..
- completed psychometric test - OMG I completely failed it, I cannot do spatial reasoning at all - what's next in the sequence? - who knows?, more to the point, who cares!? So I've probably lost that job, oh well!
- email person and ask for work
- surf the job sites
- email supervisor
Still haven't made tea. So First job is to make tea and then
- re-write some of smaller sections of paper
