Waiting for AHRC news

S

Definately...... it normally kicks in big time around the 10th-20th.... eek!

W

no post for me either. i'm just quite depressed now, this waiting is awful.

B

Good news, well, for me at least. No word from the AHRC yet but I've just got a letter from my Uni offering my one of their grants if I don't get external funding! I thought that they would just give me enough to pay the fees but there's a maintenance grant of £10,500 to go with it! I had absolutely no idea that this was available - whoaaaaaaaa!

It's slightly less than the AHRC grant and I have to do over 100 hours of teaching to pay my way, but I'm feeling so relieved that I'm going to be able to carry on for at least another year. Sorry, this probably isn't the place to celebrate but I can't get through to my parents or my fiancé and so if I wasn't posting here I'd probably be dancing in the street! I hope you all hear some good news as soon as possible, I'm starting to feel guilty already...

G

Thats brilliant news BobNic well done you. Think any sort of good news is welcome at the moment.

M

I am so pleased for you BobNic - don't apologise! It must be such a relief! :)

H

nothing for me today

P

Will probably only amuse me but just googled 'AHRC waiting' and came up with http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2599157880049983806YyVnsr.
Interestingly, the previous image is of a dentist's.

Well done to Bobnic, any good news is worth sharing here!
Yes I picture this forum like a big waiting room, full of letter boxes behind the seats that people keep anxiously/obsessively checking.

My supervisor just told me all the news he's heard so far has been bad, and that the whole department is 'holding out for me'.

So no pressure then.

S

Well done BobNic!!! That is brilliant news please don't feel guilty! You are right to celebrate and anything that goes well here we'll all celebrate with you I do know what you mean though - last year when I was successful I had terrible survivor guilt lol!

Soarus, what your sup is saying seems to be what's going on all over - I've seen only the one FLoJ - although there is talk of others - its fierce this year

S

Lol, my sup told me today to take deep breaths and chant ohnmmmmmm lol lol lol - I do love him - he's so much fun!

Yep the waiting room analogy is pretty good! Ha ha, its like going to the dentists knowing the check up will either be great, no problems or.... we need to extract all of your teeth and replace them with wooden stumps pmsl!

C

I just emailed that picture of the AHRC waiting room to my boyfriend who is waiting.

M

Just got my letter from the AHRC to say I'm getting funding for a PhD in English literature, so hopefully there will be some good news on its way to everyone here soon. Very sorry to hear about others' bad news so far - especially since everyone's projects sound so interesting. Fingers crossed to those still waiting.

R

Well done Mr-Hyde! Nice to see another letter of joy turn up for someone! When was it dated?

M

Thanks Soarus. It was dated 6th August. Last year my rejection didn't come until halfway through September, so it seems like they might be getting them out quicker this year.

P

My goodness, how long are they taking to get anywhere!
My husband's arrived on 6th having been posted on 4th but now they seem to be sitting around for ever.....
