First author should really be the person who has done the most to producing the paper (i.e. project planning, execution and writing the paper). Last (in medicine anyway) is generally head of group. In between, it's a bit of a free-for-all but more work should equal closer to the top. When there are lots of authors, sometimes they are listed alphabetically.

Best way to tell is to try it and see! It always pays to prepare for a presentation by actually presenting it aloud, rather than reading it in your mind. Bear in mind that you might speak a little faster for the real thing because of nerves.

Unsatisfying answer I know but the truth is that it will vary. Many projects are multidisciplinary in nature and so involve more than one department.

If you were concerned, you could add an explanatory note to the e-mail.

No problem to e-mail the person advertising the project to ask for copies of the papers, it just shows that you are keen to learn more. Good luck!

Sorry if this sounds harsh but you wouldn't like it if your supervisor ignored your e-mail. I totally understand being underpressure but it's not very professional to ignore a request to meet from someone who is essentially your boss. I would advise that you arrange to meet your supervisor so that you can explain any difficulties/time pressures and perhaps get some very useful advice. Good luck

Miraculously, I managed not to put on any weight over Christmas but I was keeping an eye on what I ate and went to gym a lot the week before! I'm certainly not one of those people who can eat anything and not put on weight (do they even exist? If so, they probably smoke (increases metabolic rate) and fidget a lot...and they certainly aren't in their 30s!!)

I dropped my Nokia in the dish water a while back. I took it apart, dried it as best I could with tissue paper and then left it (still apart) somewhere warm to dry out completely. It fully recovered! Fingers crossed for yours!
