Parsnips - what do we think?

Re bangers and mash, I am doing the bridesmaid thing on Sunday and the wedding breakfast will be sausage and mash followed by apple crumble, yum!!!

Parsnips - what do we think?

Roast parsnips are nice IF you realise that what you are putting into your mouth is a parsnip and not a potato. Otherwise it's a very nasty shock (akin to drinking a cup of tea thinking it is coffee and vice versa).

<--- just trying out the seasonal smileys (thanks team!)

Love them, yum!

Hair highlights! Color?
A

It won't wash out if they just 'lift' your current hair colour - so they are not adding colour to your hair, they are taking it away. It would be like bleaching it blonde but using a less harsh lightening agent and/or not leaving it on so long. If you were to add bleach to dark hair, it goes through a coppery stage before it gets blonde. Anyway, your hairdresser will be able to explain all! Night night!

So bit darker than blonde but not quite into red I'm sure your hairdresser will have lots of ideas for you and will be able to show you some sample colours.

Of course, you can have one than one colour at a time, how about some blonde and some coppery coloured ones too?

Re the high/low lights issue
I have dark brown hair and have had both red highlights and (on separate occasions) blonde ones. Both looked ok, however, red washes out really easily (ask a hairdresser, they will tell you that it's the least persistant colour) and can become a bit pink (generally not a good look). Blonde on the other hand does stay as you are effectively removing the colour from your hair. Of course, the downside of this is obvious root re-growth and a tendency for frizziness on the bleached bits. So only go for highlights of either colour if you are prepared to have them re-done regularly or else are resigned to slapping a colour on all over to hide the re-growth/washed out red at some point.

BTW Sorry for being rather practical!! I still think you should go for it, highlights are cool and it's nice to have a change every now and again!

how old are all of you guys?

Pea, I totally agree, works for me!

I'm 31 - but everytime I've bought alcohol this year I have been asked for ID so I'm not too worried about looking old! Age is just a number. Use sun screen, don't smoke, go easy on the booze, buy some hair dye and you have nothing to fear from your 30s. I totally agree with Paulasbrito (on every point! ;o)

Oh, I've not read lovely bones, will have to get a copy now!

Piglet, I find a nice glass of wine (or 3 ) helps with the 'stream of consciousness' style of discussion writing

I have a hangover ...

Orange juice and peanuts works for me however, I think hangover 'cures' are very individual things. My PhD DoS used to swear by a custard doughnut and a cup of tea (frankly, that would make me puke without a hangover) and for one of my pals, it's diet coke and a kitkat (ditto).

My last chapter (Final Summary and Future Work) was only 7 pages. I had discussed the results in each chapter so it literally did just summarise the findings of each chapter and attempted to draw the results from the different studies together.

Time Traveller's Wife is brilliant, highly recommended. Also, "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel
