What would you do if ...
A

Was she drunk? Obviously she is attracted to you drunk or sober but maybe her inhibitions were lowered to the extent that she threw caution to the wind? Difficult situation but perhaps she's feeling mortified about it?

Your reaction might well have been the same if it had been a bloke - unless you really fancy a person, no one wants to be suddenly leapt on and groped!

Have you heard back about the RF job yet Wickid? (or have a missed a thread?)

Why did H leave?

Hi DanB!

Does anyone else have a stupid phobia?
A

I have a friend who intensely dislikes buttons. She is getting married this winter and specifically choose a button-free dress. However, when her wedding dress arrived, unlike the example in the shop, it had tiny buttons all down the back :-O The shop is removing them for her!

I am often jealous of my cats when I leave the house on a cold morning and the 2 of them are snuggled up under a radiator!

What is the difference between PHD and MD
A

In the UK it means a medical doctorate and can be thought of as a 'PhD for medical doctors'. You usually have to be registered with the GMC to do one. It is PhD 'level' but takes 2 years full time (hence, less work is expected).

Upgrade- the time it takes and how to get by without the next installment of studentship
A

Why has your studentship stopped? Do you mean your bursary or have they suspended your registration too? Never heard of this happening whilst awaiting an upgrade! Presumably, if the worst happened and the transfer wasn't approved (NB I'm not suggesting that this is in any way likely to happen, just theorising here), you'd carry on and complete an Mphil?

Have an Ann hug instead! ((((((((DJW))))))))

Most Academics are Sick People

*Most* academics? A sweeping generalisation, don't you think?!

National Insurance Shortfall
A

Yeah, I had one of these asking for about £300 a few years ago, did the same as you i.e. filed it (aka chucked it in my chaotic study) and forgot about it! Like you I figure it isn't going to have a lot of impact on the £3 per week state pension I get when I'm 67...

These freshers are getting younger every year...
A

I've noticed this too! I was at the main campus on Mon and couldn't believe the way that the undergrad girls were dressed, it was a parade of straightened hair, perfect make-up and the latest fashions. Whatever happened to rushing in for the first lecture of the day with your hair still wet and wearing jeans and a t-shirt? Or was that just me?!

What do people do to stop themselves piling on the pounds?
A

Hehe Bibi, me too! I lost 10lbs in the last month of writing up, had no time to eat and was full of nervous energy!

Last minute panic...
A

Hello, everyone feels scared when they hand in their thesis, it's a odd mixture of joy of submitting and intense fear of viva!

The external can't force you to include discussions of his/her work if they are not directly relevant to your project. It (should) be enough that you are aware of his/her work and able to discuss it in the viva. Ask your supervisors, I'm sure they'll be able to reassure you. Good luck with the viva!

How flexible are they?
A

Flexibility will depend on your subject i.e. if your PhD is in science and your work lab-based then, by necessity, you'll need to work in the Uni much of the time. However, you are entitled to holiday and long weekends should certainly be possible.
