I wonder what they did to have a break from their research though? Could hardly go for a cup of tea and a nice biscuit, could they?

Hi Bug

Sounds like bit of a 'rug-pulling' moment but don't panic, every PhD student has at least one of these. Have you spoken to your supervisors since making this discovery?

You can rely on PhD students to solve the world's greatest mysteries...

Supervisors can usually attend the viva (IF the student wants them there and it's not normally a whole gang of them either, usually just one) but they are not allowed to comment. They are there as observers only and must withdraw with the student when the examiners are making their decision.

So, even if you don't pick Prof A as a supervisor, Prof A cannot be an examiner if they have contributed to your project in anyway i.e. offered advice, assisted with experiments, proof-read your thesis chapters et cetera.

Definitely D, you cannot have someone who has had any involvement in your project as an examiner.

Exactly! And given that the average age of a woman having her first child was 27 in 2003 (or thereabouts, and increasing all the time) how much use will a nappy-changing lesson that you had 13 years ago actually be?

"Really, i suggest and request this forum to give good guidance to international stu who wants to do higher studies in UK. "

The findaphd.com site gives excellent advice for international students wishing to find funding (http://www.findaphd.com/students/funding.asp#3). Also, I think you'll find that the forum members here, and certainly the postgradforum team, will provide advice and information to the best of their abilities to all those international students posting a reasonably focused question.

submitting same results for different conferences

When I say 'it's ok', I mean that as Jewel said, it's generally accepted. Usually the regulations for submitting an abstract for presentation at a conference will say something about the data not having been previously presented or published.

As I understand it, it's ok to present the same data at more than one conference BUT the crucial thing is not to have the same data published in more than one place. This happened to me last year, I presented at a large conference and the abstracts were published in a journal. I later presented the same data at a small national meeting but I specifically asked that the abstracts be excluded from the journal supplement resulting from that meeting (as they'd already been published).
