How about saucyGerman as opposed to sausageGerman- or would that be considered too much of an oxymoron?

anonGerman- well, I'm unknown & German ... what should I say ... when I first visited this forum the forum quality was much lower, and most users called themself "anonUser" , so I went with the flow. Am considering to change that to knownGerman, what do you guys/girls think? Or maybe something more saucy, ......

chosing a supervisor - male or female?
A

Ah, ... he's just kind of generally staring at one particular PhD student, and not at the person presenting the data. Probably to make the presenter feel more at ease. Luckily, she turned out to be as intelligent as pretty.

Errr, that was the point, he's staring into midspace, i.e. below the face, above the table.

Miau, I think SixKitten is more saucy, because it is the more original name.

Our head of department has a problem with women; he introduced two final year PhD students at a conference as "big tits and small tits"; when he employed a female PhD student last year he said: "If she is as intelligent as she is pretty, we're laughing, if not then at least we've got something to look at" ... at lab meetings he's knows to always stare at one particulate PhD student (well, not into her face, that is), although his wife is also present.
My own female supervisor prefers to work with men, with whom she gets on a lot better. As a woman in science she's been fighting all her career against male networking, and now she just can't stop fighting anymore, not even with us. She's uncaring about the problems of woman with children, which I find especially bad, as she was a single parent herself.

Yes, that's the spirit. The guy I tried to kiss is unfortunately very good at defensive kung fu ..... oh well. Maybe next year will be better, must practice.

Nah, just proof reading & inserting references.

Hmm, I'm very good at making gluhwein, though. Didn't set anything on fire (exept the rum).

And I'm dissapointed because I didn't get a kiss ... gotta find a boyfriend. And some more references.

How many references
A

I did a cycling proficincy test when I started school. The police came and checked all the bikes for faults and gave away lots of cats eyes and then we had to drive around the school yard without hitting anyone. Then you got a certificate and the nice policemen then taught you to stop at red lights.

Later we learned to avoid the nice police men, who would impound your bike and make you walk home if they deemed it unsafe.

Today was/is international kissing day (exept in the USA) - so, did anyone of you Kiss!

Kiss your partner, eskimo-kiss a friend, get a big wet one from your dog! Or fondly remember your best kisses and use this day as motivation to recreate them. Kissing in all its forms is what's being celebrated, and all that's asked is that you take a moment to stop and reflect on the kiss, not just what it signifies.

My attempts at kissing today were sadly turned down ..... anyway, a big group hugg & Kiss for you all

Query about when to stop research and start writing-up?
A

Err, you get thrown out of the lab after exactly 36 months and then are told to write up as a PhD (or mphil if there's not enough data). Simple, really.

For those that think they may be a little old to do a PhD
A

Hmm, anyone doing a PhD that old (78) won't be using the degree to build up a career for him/her self. So is this person taking away a PhD position from someone younger who might need it more ...?

i really cannot be bothered

Been reading comics, http://drmcninja.com/archive.html , so not too well. Can't be bothered to look up the correct references I need for cell cycle checkpoints.
