Hi
Im not in this background so i cant be very specific to what you're looking for but I think you should focus on the following points
1. Why are you interested in Bioinformatics field in general? (What was your Masters/ Bachelors degree and was it in Bioinformatics/Biology/Bioengineering etc?)
2. What motivates you to research on Gene cell regulation. (What relevant research experience in this line do you have? for e.g. did you work in a lab before?)
3. Why are you keen on this specific disease-cancer? Why not something else? Here if i were you I would give epidemiological data and say that its a very high disease burden in many populations, incidence/prevalence etc of the disease in the country where you will do your PhD and your home country.
4. General research interests
5. Publications if you have any
Best of luck!

Hi guys
Gave my interview yesterday. Overall I was very satisfied with my performance. They said they will reach a final decision yesterday itself before the end of the day and then let the postgraduate adiministrator know and that he/she will get in touch with me very soon. Either today or by middle of next week.
Do you guys think it really takes more than a day for decision and mailing the candidates? especially the successful one?
Please share your experiences of how you were notified and how much time it took.
Thanks
AJ
Hey Ailicec
I think sometimes being away from people you love and care for actually makes you understand their real value and importance. So, dont be sad and besides in a few weeks you'll be fine. Christmas and holidays can have that effect on our minds. I din't see my family for nearly 3 years due to studies abroad. But, I was more eager to meet them and they were so surprised to see so many changes in me and we had a laugh about it. So, do what you wana do and if they are people who love you then you can be assured that they will stay in your life no matter what! So, be true to yourself and make use of technology to connect with your loved ones from time to time and above all don`t isolate yourself as it can cause depression...make sure you go out with your friends and bring back interesting memories and anecdotes of your loved ones. That will just keep them fresh and make you feel their presence even though they are not around. And finally, take this opportunity to grow and learn more about yourself...this opportunity may not come around once you marry or have other responsibilities to take care of.

Hi guys
I thank all of you who are there in this forum and who make this forum lively supportive and useful. Just wana share with you that I have given my interview today (telephonic) and I prepared so much for it and to my conscience I think I did all the best that I could. So, I leave the rest to fate, luck, destiny, god, holy spirits, ghosts or whatever on earth and beyond .... I just have my fingers crossed. They will inform me early next week..ohh and by the way they had said that it would be an informal interview but it turned out to be a formal interview but I was prepared well for it.
I will share the results with you and if you need help in your interviews I'll be glad to help you.
AJ
hey guys
i have just checked my interview email invitation again and they have mentioned that today will be an informal interview...so how is this different to a formal interview and how should i be prepared? Is it like they are gona filter the best candidates and then hold a formal interview?
AJ
hey Jenny
you are combining 2 major things here - smoking and PhD...try to achieve one of them first cos it can be stressful to get them both done simultaneously. I'm in Medicine and Public Health field and let me tell you that every ciagreete you smoke takes away a day of your life...but i know its hard to quit so dont try quittin all of a sudden and take your doctor's support or any therapy that you can get.
On the other hand since you are smoking anyway i'm sure that punishing yourself by not smoking completely and ruing your health (mainly due to addiction withdrawal symptoms) is not a good idea. so smoke less but smoke until you get this PhD. Get some support meanwhile and once you get your PhD then take serious steps about it.
Good luck and stay strong!
wow you women here are really wonderful!!!! In a few weeks i turn 24 actually so yea i mean i guess i could wait for 2 or 3 more years to take decisions like having babies and so on....right now i havent even met the love of my life..cos in my Masters I still had my crushes and in and outs of temporary relationships...so now i have 2 things on my agenda as top priorities for this year- 1. to get a Phd studentship 2. to find love and who knows churchbells and diapers will follow in a few years ;)
hi guys
I admire all women especially when they can manage motherhood and PhD and day to day life but just wondering ..isn't it a good idea to become pregnant strictly after yor PhD is over? Can't this be explained to partners? I am asking this question because im in my early 20's and i know i have sometime before i can embrace motherhood but isnt it simply more practical to do concentrate on getting PhD out of the way before you can concentrate on building a family? I get easily nervous about work-life balance :-)
hey Missylow,
ok first relax n tell me why do you feel depressed about your PhD? especially if its at such a good Uni?
is it because others are good and you feel you not doing as much as they are?
is it because you feel a bit guilty of ditchin your job which paid well?
is it because you have a slow start in your PhD? and feel you need more time to get used to it?
I think its all the above 3 reasons....well...let me tell you
sometimes we may feel like others are doing so much more than us maybe also cos they talk about their PhD and we pick up positive signals fromthem but in reality it could be that they are equally fairing as you or are evn far behind you...be careful of people who like to talk too much about their PhD's they maybe boastful and make you feel like you have done nothing! Another strategy is tart telling them how your PhD is coming along I bet they will start feeling liek your a genius
i think it must have been a hard choice for you to decide to quit your job but whatever reasons you did it for must have been valid reasons otherwise you're not foolish to have made that decision. So, give yourself time to reflect on why you made that decision and then see if you still regret it or smoothen out
PhD's can be a slow start for many and laziness is devils playground..so it leaves you in a limbo and thinking why did you choose to be in that position....I;d be surprised if PhD students know all about their research in just a month of getting accepted...It may take atleast 6 months for you to interact with your supervisor, staff and colleagues to get a sense of what you're gona do
reflect on the above and im sure you will get an answer to yourself!

Dear Sneaks and Button
thats what i meant...consensus is like generally whats agreed between everyone so im thinking that it could be based on general views about the actors behaviour. but, there could be a disadvantage of this that the outcomes of how actor would behave is already predicted if you just consider general perceptions. So, it should be confirmed by performing individual assessments?
hi Button
Does it mean that the observers base their decisions and judegements based on what evidence already exists about the actors? In essence, are they basing judgements on other observers interpretation of the actor's behaviour? Since the observer does not know how the actors react to same situations the observer is forced to rely on similar work that was conducted on the actors in that particular situation?

Dear Jfitzgib
I think its very diffiuclt to find PhD positions that are open to international candidates and even if they say they are its also open to EU so there is tough competition. In some countries to access govt scholarships is also tough and beurcratic. So, on one hand although there are scholarships at Masters level for non EU students there are fewer scholarships at PhD level. Unless you're research proposal is brilliant and your interview is exceedingly good when compared to other candidates its very difficult.
