I'm going to give that chapter 3 (yet) another go. I really need to finish editing so I can spot all the gaps, and then organise for the new writing. So, here I go.

Ruby and TG - I hope you enjoyed your early evening -If you can call that an early evening- but at least you didn't overstretched yourselves tonight and that is good because you'll get back to it tomorrow with a better disposition. You have a good memory, tonight was footie night and we managed to muster enough people for the game again; and I'm only half as sore as I was last week, so it's an improvement ;-)

Lara - you are fantastic, it is unbelievable that you wrote 13 pages! Believe me, you've done the work. That is the hardest bit, to put the words and the ideas on the paper. You'll see how much easier it is going to be to edit it. It is still hard work, but you won't have to deal with blockages and you'll be able to see clearly where you are going. Well done, I'm so impressed (up)

My progress today was none/zero/nada. I had to be at the office all day preparing my lecturers and I could only get out early enough to go get a well overdue haircut before the footie. From now on I'm going to have to split myself in two to cope with everything, so I've decided to work on the thesis intensively tomorrow morning when I'm fresh enough and go to work in the afternoon. I really need to get this chapter finished because it's holding me back and I'm also starting to feel the pressure.

Tomorrow I'll check in really early and will work away the whole morning non-stop.

Why do you have to re-write your references TG? Can't you download them straight from the databases? I've never typed in a reference.

You seem to have done pretty much all of the intellectual work that needs to be put into a thesis. From now on, just so you do not loose any more studying time for your exam, why don't you just dedicate half days to what ever is left to do on you thesis, and half or full days on studying? This way even if you still have things to do about the thesis, you are not delaying studying any longer.

Just to let you know that I'm writing this post on a PC with Firefox 3.0.1 the invisible box is still there and yet in the way.

Well done Lara, you are keeping busy and the work is flowing, some times more than others, but that's OK; it's not a linear process. So, just keep going and the whole thesis will come around, you'll see.

Me, I just came back from work half an hour ago, and decided that instead of going to the university, I'll just work from home for a couple of hours. So I've fetched myself a cupa, and I'm ready to give it another go. I'll start on the document to see how much more editing I can do, and if I get tired of that, I'll read the next paper in the queue. Fortunately I do not need to read so many papers as Lara.

Rubyw, I wanted to say earlier (but the forum got me out of a really long post) that you've done great handing in your chapter, because now you've pass the ball to you supervisor. It's their turn to do their job, and in the mean time, you can busy yourself with some other thing that also needs to be done. Congratulations! Keep like that and the whole thesis should come around much faster.

Celesmai, best of luck with the baby and forget about the PhD for the time being. Just organise as much as you can so you can easily pick it up again whenever you are back. For the moment the only thing that is important is to be ready for the baby and that you enjoy the experience.

Apparently it's working now. How are you girls doing. I do not think I can start working until this evening, so I'll try to do as much as possible preparing my lectures for next Monday and then will work some more on the thesis. I just do not want to stop...

Here is some more on this issue:

What I'm experiencing is that in some areas within the "post reply" box the cursor behaves funny: I can move the arrow around no problem, but when I click to place the "writing cursor" there and do some editing, I can't. The work around is to place the cursor some where outside this area and then move it with the arrow keys. This area is placed in the middle of the box, and what I think is happening is that the blinking cursor is just invisible there. That's probably the reason it looks like you can not write.

I'm writing this post from a different computer, so it can not be the machine. It is also a PC with Firefox 2. I do not think the version of Firefox is an issue since my other computer has the latest one.

Another thing that I noticed is that the spelling checker plugin for Firefox doesn't work either. It identifies (red underscore) misspellings, but you can not open (right click) the box with suggestions.

I've been working on editing chapter 3 for some hours now... well, it is actually only the first half of the chapter. It looked like it would never end, but I think I'm starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. I have almost finished organising all of the writing in the right sections, and almost trimmed down from all redundant information. I could probably finish it today if I pushed it for another couple of hours; but I'm too tired to do that. I think I'm going to give it a rest for today, and that will give me a precise point where to retake it tomorrow.

I hope that the rest of you could do a bit better than myself.

I'll keep an eye on the forum anyway.
