Hi everyone, glad the teaching went well Eska.
I'm really tired again today, despite going to bed at 9pm last night. But I'm ploughing on with the work. I'm going to work through the weekend too - my partner has some new computer game that just came out last night and intends to play it constantly for the next few days, so I'm going to spend the time trying to catch up on at least some of my schedule.
Tasks for today:
1.) Look at online teaching resources for discipline I've possibly neglected - DONE
2.) Look at funding bid proposals sent by supervisors and think of sensible comments
3.) Run frequencies on one SPSS file
4.) Prepare for supervision meeting
5.) If I'm not too tired after the meeting, write up notes and email to supervisors
Hmm, that seems like quite a lot for the time remaining today. I'll see how far I get!
Hello everyone
Slept in this morning (was very tired) and then had to run around like a mad thing cleaning the flat before the agency came round to do an inspection, so only got a small amount of work done earlier. They've been and gone now, so I can get on with some more work. Goals for the rest of today:
1.) Finish cleaning my final SPSS file (yay!)
2.) Code responses to one open question
Congratulations! That's a brilliant outcome, and very inspiring (or is that comforting??). Anyway, well done, and thanks for sharing.
Good luck with the teaching, Eska!
I've been swimming this morning so only just sat down at my desk, but feel invigorated by it. Today I am going to make a lot of progress, I'm determined!
Tasks for the day:
1.) Put in claim form for training course I had to pay for by credit card
2.) Finish cleaning 3 SPSS data files
3.) Start running frequencies on SPSS
4.) Go through responses to one open question
Good luck with it all MissPiggy, sometimes it's just the first hurdle that needs to be leapt and then it's easy after that!
I've completed three of my four tasks for today, so just need to clean up my SPSS files a little more and I'll actually have achieved everything I wanted! Happy with that. If I can keep edging through the work like that I'll actually get somewhere.
Thanks Skig. I hope I feel better soon too! A doctor's appointment this afternoon, and then I have to go into hospital for surgery in two weeks - a minor op, but I'm really hoping it just solves everything. Luckily my supervisors are being lovely about it all - I told them about the op, which takes a day or so to recover from, and they immediately assumed I'd be taking the whole week off. Which I think I'm going to plan to do - if I get bored and want to work I'll just do some reading, but otherwise I'll just watch TV and go for walks and stuff. Sounds like bliss!
Anyway, back to work today. Had a good meeting with my supervisors on Friday and am feeling less daunted by the workload now. And besides, what's the worst that can happen, overrunning slightly at the end of the three years? It's not the end of the world.
Goals for today:
1.) Write up notes from Friday's supervision meeting and email to supervisors - DONE
2.) Finish list of questions for data analysis
3.) Do a bit more cleaning of SPSS files
4.) Start work on hypotheses to test
Hi Skig
I've been kind of avoiding this thread, because I'm feeling so behind on everything and don't seem to be meeting self-imposed deadlines at the moment! Not helped by feeling ill and tired quite a lot. But I'm slowly starting to get myself back on track, and feeling like next week will be better, so I'll be back soon...
Hope you all manage to get your work done! Editing stuff down is such a pain...
Hah, Eska, the time difference threw me a bit this morning too, I was going to allow myself a lie-in but I'm awake and at my desk already!
Hello everyone. I didn't come to this forum all last week, I was ill and then working away from my laptop and then just too lazy to make myself focus properly. But this week it's all different again - this week I'm going to make some proper progress and put in some long hours, instead of just going on Facebook and other timewasting activities!
Goals for today:
1.) Finish rewriting conference abstract
2.) Register for conference and submit abstract
3.) Finish formatting final SPSS file ready to do some actual analysis!
Gah, one of my variables is missing from my SPSS files, luckily a very unimportant 'specify other' response to one question that I can ignore, but it took ages to locate and then I had to re-do a load of formatting to get the other variables numbered correctly. So that took way longer than I wanted, and now I'm behind schedule! Oh well, I gave myself a fairly easy task for next week so hopefully I'll catch up!
Just going to make a few notes on my conference abstract, and then I'm done for the weekend! May do some work on Sunday, but tonight and tomorrow are time off. Yay!
Hope you all get through your work okay, and manage to get a break this weekend x
I was freezing last night, but luckily this morning doesn't seem quite so bad so far!
Emmaki, the situation over there in Greece just seems completely beyond my imagination - good luck to you and yours with getting through it, I hope something positive comes out soon.
Today I need to catch up on some of the work I've been too lazy to do over the last couple of days - I really have to knuckle down or I'll be behind schedule only one week into my new workplan! So, goals for today:
1.) Finish formatting 2 SPSS files
2.) Make progress on conference abstract
I had the same issue with the compulsory questions. But done anyway, hope it helps!
Morning everyone!
Skig, hope you're feeling better soon - and if you're ill again, don't try to work in bed, that's way beyond the call of duty!!
Sneaks, hope you've battered those words down to size.
I overslept this morning and didn't want to get up because my flat is freezing - looks like my heating isn't working again, it took my letting agents 11 weeks to fix it last winter so hopefully I can get it working without having to resort to calling them!
Today's tasks:
1.) Try to get the heating working!
2.) Work on the formatting of 2 SPSS files
3.) Work on abstract for conference presentation
4.) Prepare for this evening's AGM of voluntary group I chair
Hah, Eska, the procrastination thing on the seminar made me laugh - so much of what I do to try to clarify the process of the PhD seems to have a strong whiff of procrastination about it! Like, for example, the workplan for the next six months that I've developed - I mean, sure, it's useful to have this and it's helped me to think through what I need to do, but did I really need to spend so long choosing colours for each different section??
Anyway, back to work today. And the first task is to update my workplan because I didn't finish doing that yesterday! My other goals for this week are:
2.) Finish formatting and cleaning my three SPSS data files
3.) Work on the details of the measurements I want to take on site
4.) Start developing hypotheses to test
Hello everyone, seems like everyone's working hard at the moment!
Sneaks, if I were you I think I'd have strangled your supervisor by now!
I've worked out a week-by-week plan of what I need to do over the next six months, which means I now have weekly goals to meet. Which is actually kind of helpful, because I can set my daily goals from those and so keep an eye on whether I'm on track or not.
Goals for today:
1.) Write up notes from this morning's supervison meeting
2.) Sort out application for training course
3.) Print off documents I need for working from home this week
4.) Look at funding council calls for proposals
5.) Make changes to workplan suggested by Supervisors
Yes, today's goal met so now I can go and meet my friends with a clear conscience!
Good luck with the work everyone!
