Hi Batfink and Button,
I am also here with several hours behind you guys. I need to see sup this afternoon, so will work for three to four hours today. Its nice to have somebody to work together on Saturday morning, even though on the other end of internet.
Skig, I think how to arrange mat leave depends pretty much on the policy of your sup/school/company. I am not sure how the law is in UK, here in US, we don't have law to guarantee mat leave with pay. 'how long is a mat leave', 'can we have a mat leave or not', those questions all depend on the sup's attitude and style a lot.
my goal today:
1. write numerical cases;
2. do other modeling method.
Batfink27, congratulations for the interview!
I designed a series of tests to resolve an issue, and the first test gave out good results. I am happy about that.
As I might not be able to approach internet tomorrow morning, I will state my goal:
1. read about vector orthogonalization.
2. try Mr. benyaya's suggestion.
3. document the tests.
Good afternoon everyone:
Batfink27, I also find having two projects on hands works good, which is like walking on two legs. One leg is too tired, then other leg will move. Skig, pregnancy is a long hard journey, take care.
I hardly did anything related to my project yesterday. I was way short of sleep, which enable me can hardly focus. Afraid of not being able to fall asleep again, I didn't take a nap in day time neither. I watched an online live chat on twitter: #phdchat. Don't feel very interested though. Last night is better, I waked up around 5am, took a sip of milk, then fell asleep again.
my goals today:
1. make sure the test method itself is right. In a metaphor, to testify the gauge is accurate.
2. tried method one according to Mr. benyaya's suggestion.
Oh, that is also a problem for me. I am always wondering which I need to chuck away/recycle, which I should keep. I used to keep all my old notebooks for classes in my office until I need to move. I used a large shopping cart to bring all the notebooks back home and left them in the storage room, not even in my study room as I hardly check them. Guess I have some emotional attachment to those notebooks.
Good afternoon everyone!
Skig, nice work with the tomatoes. Batfink, long swimming feels very good. I also have been running this morning. An easy run, followed by a large cup of coffee(20oz) made me awake. Met with sup yesterday. After discussing with the work I have done and my questions, he pointed out a particular problem I need to solve in this week, and scheduled next meeting to be this saturday. He seems like to meet with me more. I know I need sup to push me more as I am a huge procrastinator, but still feel pressure, (the amount of pressure is under control though). I waked up at midnight in three consecutive days. hope that wont happen too often.
yesterday:
write down knowledge, test and results about autocorrelation pdf.
my goal today:
1. one dimension integration test
2. think about different ways to solve the problem.

Good afternoon everyone!
done some chores over the weekend, grocery shopping, house supply shopping, house cleaning. It is a relief to have those chores done which are supposed to be done a couple of weeks ago. spent about four hours working, not very productive though. Got to see supervisor tomorrow. it makes me quite nervous after two months not meeting with him. He asked me to update him via email while he was traveling over the summer, I didn't do that. He must be very disappointed. I have disappointed advisor for long time.
Skig, mytomatoes.com is a nice strategy, I use it regularly. However, I don't feel its productive when it comes to doing some research. I always don't know what shall I fill in the activity inventory list. I know my general direction, but don't know next step: next step is always based on the result of this step, for example, if the data analyzing results are bad, I need to rethink about the design of test, methodology etc. I also don't know how long this step/task is going to be, it also depends on how well it goes. Those characteristics makes dividing one task into several tomatoes hard. For research, there is only todo list, no activity inventory list, no explicit definition for end. This is very frustrating for me. maybe someone can handle this better?

Batfink27, Thanks a lot. English is not my native language, I will try to express myself better in this thread.
Button, congratulations to have introduction part done, its very nice to take the weekend off. Wish I could have the coding done by the end of next week, then go to the museum next weekend.
Noctu, I also feel very stressful, cannot sleep well. I waked up around 9:30am this morning, usually I can wake up at 8 am, feel tired in the morning. This substantial stress follows me several years. I don't know how other people work under stress.
have done yesterday:
1. try pdf function version 2.
my goal today:
1. try pdf function version 3 today, and document tests about pdf functions.

Hope I have found this post earlier... Can I join in? I am in the last several months of my PhD, really need to push myself. I stay home, 2hrs driving from campus. So I am very easily distracted and procrastinate. Hope I can work together with other girls/guys in this thread to have our PhD done.
I need to do a couple of tests to verify my understanding and implementation of a statistics function is right. I have stuck in this for almost two weeks. The old implementation turns out to have some errors. hope I can a)modify the code b)run the test c) document the results. If I can do a) and b) today, I am happy enough.

hi everyone: It is another hot morning. I guess it is already afternoon for you guys. Nice to see you have a productive morning, which encourage me to catch up.
spent two hours doing the laundry, then went to a martial art class last evening, exhausted, had a good sleep. I actually haven't done the goal yesterday afternoon. Let me repost it, and have it done today.
run one test, analyze the result, take notes of this test.
Hi Sneaks, thanks. :)
My model doesn't run well as expected, I have stuck here for long. Need to figure out if the application is wrong, or the model need some change -- should be minor.
It is already the afternoon. My plan for this afternoon:
run one test, analyze the result, take notes of this test.
also, I ran out of clean clothes, gotta do some laundry today.
