Advice please please please

Hi Linda,

I find it very odd that you have received these comments via letter, when you actually had a positive experience. Were they definitely meant for you?! This is what I would question, if like you I had had a positive review and nothing had been mentioned before.

I would ask your supervisor, perhaps something along the lines of you received the record from your progress review, and would be grateful of any further info on the points made, to help you progress. I really wouldn't worry though!

Ooh yes Linda, the wedding bills are not the fun bit! Is your wedding soon? We decided to get married during my first year, so there was no guilt about not doing PhD stuff (up)

I absolutely hate it when word start going crazy with the green underlining, it drives me mad!

Goal 4 is done, so it's now on to my findings. Bit bored though!

Findings and discussion separately or together?
B

Hi all, have you (or are you going to) discuss your findings and discussion together or separately?

By that, I mean are you going to have findings chapter(s) just talking about your key findings and providing quotes (if qualitative which I am) etc, followed by separate discussion chapter(s) linking your findings to previous literature

OR

Are your findings linked to previous literature together?

I hope that makes sense. I have always done findings and discussion chapters separately, but I'm wondering whether it would be best to do them together.

Thanks all!

Lindalou I loved planning our wedding, I miss it, although it was a little stressful!

Batfink I completely agree about how much difference it makes starting work early!

Goals 1-3 are done, goal 4 is nearly done so I'm doing okay.

Hi all, thanks for the thoughts regarding the journal article I discovered! I read it and it is similar in areas, although it quite specifically focuses on gender which isn't what I'm doing. I felt much better after reading it! I mentioned it to sup and she seemed to think it was a good thing, so I'm happy.

Anyway, I had the weekend off so I've got LOADS to do today. Top that off with an argument with hubby already this morning, and I'm feeling a bit crappy!

On a positive note, I met sup and she was really pleased with my meth chapter, she said it was excellent so that's one chapter done and dusted for now! Ok, best get cracking.

Goal 1- email tutor
Goal 2- sort read journals
Goal 3- do meeting form
Goal 4- edit meth
Goal 5- findings plan

Hi all,

I've been teaching this morning and am sitting down to get a bit of work done now.

However, I'm having THE heart in mouth moment; I've just found a journal article which is VERY similar to my topic! Eeek. So everything I have planned will have to go on hold until I read it and work out the differences and similarities, ready to raise it with sup tomorrow.

Goal 1- read journal article and try not to panic
Goal 2- find references from journal article

Hi all,

I've not been about for a few days; I finished my chapter and sent it to sup, then had a long weekend with family. But I need to get cracking now. Next job is to start writing my findings chapters, which seems very daunting. I'm not sure whether I'm going to try and plan them, or whether to just get stuck into writing based on the analysis tables I have (it's all qualitative).

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi all,

I'm at a bit of a lose end today, because of finishing my meth chapter early. So I think I'll just do some planning and decide what to get on with next, before going to the hairdressers later!

Morning all.

I want to officially get the first draft of this chapter finished today! So all those boring tasks need doing.

Goal 1- edit interview schedules
Goal 2- edit i.sheets and c.forms
Goal 3- sort appendices and do list
Goal 4- sort figures
Goal 5- reference list

What a bore!

Goal 3 is done, so I'll get cracking on goal 4 seeing as hubby isn't home yet!

Davies- I'm only in my second year but have started writing up very rough chapters. The reason why I can write so much each day is because I have very very very detailed plans! It will take me weeks and weeks to plan a chapter, but then I can get it written in a week or so. Despite much advice I've been given I don't really write for writing's sake, I'll just write a chapter when it seems appropriate.

Well done all, keep going!

Goal 2 is done.

Goal 3 is to write gen/val/reliab section and then that will be all the writing done

Goal 4- start sorting all the red bits

Looks like I'll be sending this chapter to sup early woohoo!

2073 words written.

Linda, don't be put off by how fast I seem to be writing; I'm actually writing my meth chapter which is really straightforward, and I have a REALLY detailed plan. When writing my lit review I was averaging writing 1000 words a day, and that was on a very good day!

Ok, I've done goal 1. Goal 2 is to write the next section before lunch, which shouldn't take long.

Welcome back Batfink! The new stats process sounds very promising for your analysis.

I'm plodding along, written 1327 words this morning but my tummy doesn't feel all that good! I really want to get this section finished this morning though, didn't realise it was so near to lunchtime!

Morning all,

I was poorly sick last night so not sure how much I'll get done today, but I'll give it a go! I really want to get my meth chapter written by tomorrow. I'm hoping I can get it roughly all written today though.

Goal 1- write section 3.7
