Philosophy? Upgrade help please!
B

Hi all,

I've not been on here for a while as I'm preparing for my upgrade. I've just been looking at possible questions I may be asked, and one question is 'clarify your philosophy'.

Now, what does my 'philosophy' actually mean? Am I right in thinking I would talk about my epistemological and ontological stances?

I hate all this stuff!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Goal 1 is done.

Goal 2 I am making unbelievably slow progress on, so I'm going to do one more tomato on it, then have lunch and go and run some errands.

Morning all,

Sneaks that doesn't sound fun :(

I need to carry on with analysis again today, but I may finish early and nip into town. I also need to start arranging changing bills etc for when we move house- BORING.

Goal 1- do table for interview I analysed yesterday.
Goal 2- start analysing next interview

Hi all,

I didn't manage goal 5 yesterday; I think analysing one interview per day is my limit. So;

Goal 1- make stew for tea and put in slow cooker
Goal 2- analyse interview
Goal 3- do table for interview

Hmm I've changed my goals, because I didn't feel able to jump straight into analysing another interview

Goal 3- sort letters for approaching group 1- DONE
Goal 4- sort letters for approaching group 2
Goal 5- start analysing next interview

Goal 1- analyse interview
Goal 2- do table for interview

How to prepare for my upgrade panel?
B

Thanks all, your comments are really helpful!

I guess I also need to work on staying strong about my decisions; I had my annual review and the examiners majorly criticised my ideas, and I just sort of went along with a few of them when I could have justified my decisions!

Any other feedback would be more than welcome :-)

How to prepare for my upgrade panel?
B

Hi all,

I have my upgrade panel coming up in the next month, and was just wondering what I should do to prepare? I've produced a 5k report which my supervisor is currently checking, so I'm not sure how to really prepare for the panel.

How did you prepare for yours? I was thinking of reading viva books but thought this may be a bit OTT. I also thought about reading my report inside out and looking for any potential issues that my panel may ask about. This I will do, however there's always something I will miss. I don't know whether I'm thinking into it too much and should just do a bit of prep a couple of days before?

Any help is much appreciated!

Anyone in London? Can't believe the news at the moment

Chococake I'm exactly the same. I'm wondering whether it's because I'm doing the boring task of editing, but even when taking a break I'm googling for the latest updates.

Hope everyone is okay. I've not been working for a while due to other commitments, so I'm going to set my self a couple of goals. I don't think much will get done considering I couldn't sleep last night.

Goal 1- read 3 journal articles which need reading, and add to endnote
Goal 2- edit upgrade report

Really hope you are all okay. I'm not too far from Manchester and that had serious issues, which made me worry and get an awful nights sleep.

Recording references

I use Endnote- it took a bit of getting used to but it was well worth the time.

For Harvard; edit --> output styles --> harvard.

However, I also found the same issue that you had with Harvard not displaying references how I wanted them. So all I did was; edit --> output styles --> edit harvard to how I needed it and then saved it as 'harvard copy'. My default is now to 'harvard copy'

Hope this helps!
