The One Goal Thread

I really need to get some writing done today, after having fri-mon off. It's going to be difficult! It doesn't help that I've already had a bad morning- booked my car in for an MOT at 8:15am, and the man strolls in at 8:45am saying 'oh sorry, I was in bed' :-s I must say I don't have much confidence in him!

Anyway;

Goal 1- read everything I have wrote for lit review so far

Goal 2- check I need all of section 14

Goal 3- write section 14a

Good luck star-shaped!

Too much paid work?

Thanks for all your responses! My PhD is in social sciences, so I won't have the pressure of labs and so on.

I'm sort of undecided about what to do- I definitely don't want to work 2.5 days a week on things unrelated to my PhD, but there is a possibility that my RA position may stop soon- we're only contracted until November but there is word that we will be kept on. The deadline for the new job is not until September, so I wouldn't be starting that until October.

I'm just a bit worried that if I don't go for this new job then I won't be kept on as an RA and then I'll have nothing! Should I just apply for it and then turn it down if I am kept on as an RA?

Who had heard about funding for 2010?

Congrats both of you! Helena I know the feeling with the MA, I'm currently writing up my MA and it's driving me crazy!

Hi all,

I'm just wondering whether you think it would be unreasonable to take on another job, for some extra money.

I'm finishing off my Masters at the moment, but start my full-time PhD in September, and I'm funded.

I currently work 1 day a week as an RA, 1 evening a week doing voluntary work, as well as 3 hours once a month for another paid activity.

But I've just recently seen a job advertised, which is for 1 day a week, and I'm really keen on applying.

This would mean that basically, I'd be busy for 2 1/2 days each week. Would this leave me with enough time to do my PhD, as well as allowing some time off, or would it be pushing it? I'm also hoping that there would be some teaching available during my PhD, so that added on too would be involved.

What do you all think?

Ooh teek, you're doing great if you've planned a section of doom, I can never face looking at those sections! How was the sports day Sneaks?! Did you manage to get through it without screaming at megaphone man?!

I've actually managed to do my first goal, which I thought was going to be a full day job, so I'm pleased. I think I might as well crack on with some more writing, seeing as it seems to be going okay today!

Goal 2- write sections 17 to 19.

Morning all,

My goal for today is to write sections 9-13 of my lit review.

Goals 7 and 8 are done, I can't be bothered doing goal 9, working out how to use endnote, because it's not majorly important at the moment. I'm now off to have a fiddle about with making my wedding invites!

What do you do in your breaks?

Noo teek it's all about the chocolate flavour, a classic if you ask me!

I eat angel delight mmmmm, which is really naughty but it's what I'm doing now. I usually just trawl the internet, which like you said Sneaks, it isn't really a break away from the pc!

Word of the day

Can I have a phrase? I've whacked out a fair few "with regards to" today!

Goals 5 and 6 are done.

Goal 7- write section 7.

I think I might give up one I've done goal 7- getting back into this writing lark is hard after not writing anythign for weeks! But if I do feel like doing something after that;

Goal 8- add in meth about class

Goal 9- carry on working out how to use endnote.

I've done goals 2 and 3, didn't take as long as I thought- sounds like we're all doing really well woohoo!

Goal 5- write sections 3-6 of lit review

Morning all.

I've done my first goal, which was to rearrange the lit I've got.

Goal 2- read sups comments on plan

Goal 3- reorganise plan for lit review

I'm a bit gutted today though, I've just got another mark back and it's very unlikely that I'll get a distinction for my MA :( ah well, life sucks.

Endnote, please help before I cry

Thanks a lot both of you, and Wally you're a star for finding that info for me! I'll get onto my uni and try and get it sorted!

Endnote, please help before I cry
B

Hi all, I'm feeling down in the dumps today, and together with endnote I am ready to break down in tears.

So I bought Endnote x4 the other day through my uni. I had to buy it when I was on a uni computer, to get it for the reduced price of £58.00. I've received it today and installed it on my home computer.

I've been trying to connect and search in an online database, but all the ones I need want a user ID and a password. I've tried all my uni usernames/passwords but it just says it won't do it. Is this because I'm at home? Have I messed up and bought the wrong endnote, and it won't work at home? :'(

Any help is much appreciated :)
