Hi everyone!

Right, I really need to get this assignment finished today, because I've got a majorly busy week ahead of me where I won't be able to do work!

So gaol 1- edit red bits that are all over my assignment!

Goal 2 is done, so now for dreaded goal 3- do section 2.1.1.

Sneaks, I'm surprised your dog didn't join in with the dancing, mine usually does!

My first goal of the day is to finish section 2.1.3, which really shouldn't take long.

Good luck everyone!

ESRC Quota Nomination
B

Don't worry! I also have an ESRC studentship, and basically I was told that it really is the uni's decision, but the ESRC just sort of "rubber stamp" it. Obviously the uni have done all the applications, interviews and then selected those who are most appropriate for the studentships, so there's no reason why the ESRC wouldn't agree with their decisions. I really wouldn't worry, congratulations for getting it!

I've been lagging behind for a while now, and can't seem to get motivated to do anything, to the point where I'm actually getting worried about it. I hope rejoining this thread will help me sort myself out! So:

Goal 1: Finish sampling section

Phd, how long has your taken?
B

4matt, must be different at different unis then! I'm also doing a 1+3, and we have been told (on a number of occasions) that we have three years to complete the PhD stage (with funding) and then if it takes any longer than that then obviously we have no funding, so the sooner we get it done the better. Your uni must be particularly harsh!

Phd, how long has your taken?

4matt, the 30th Sept deadline is when your funding ends, not when you have to have it handed in. Obviously, if it continues for longer than the 30th Sept then you will be doing it without receiving funding. But it's not that you have to have it handed in by then, although that's what I will be aiming for!

Based on the people I've spoken to about this, it seems very rare to complete in 3 years, I know it my University it has always taken longer.

Copyright?
B

Hi everyone,

This is awfully off topic, but I know you intelligent people will know the answer 8-)

Basically, I'm making invitations for my wedding, but I want to use an image that I've found on google. The thing is, it says it's copyrighted- does this mean I can't use it? I want to put it on my 100 invitations, but I presume that because it's copyrighted I can't?

Really hope you can help!

Working from home and sleepiness - please tell me I'm not the only one!
B

Hi Natassia,

I was like that during my undergrad degree- I always had to have a nap around 4:30pm, then I'd get up feeling a bit groggy but would then have my tea. I think it was because I had a bit of a messed up sleeping plan- I need a lot of sleep, but I would stay up until around 1am, then get up at 8am (which wasn't enough sleep for me!), so that extra npa in the day was needed.

Now, I'm generally in bed my 11pm - I stop working before tea, then have a relaxed evening to myself, so by 11pm I'm ready for bed. I get up at about 8ish every morning, and have never had a nap in the day since I started my MA! Maybe think about getting a bit more sleep at night? I could never work until 1am!

But even so, I do still get tired in the afternoon, around 3pm, I'm just never tired enough for a nap. But I get around that by doing my productive work in the morning, like writing, and then spend the afternoon doing easier work.

Sorry, that's all a bit jumbled, but I hope it helps!

Narrative research
B

Hi everyone,

I'm looking into several research approaches at the moment, one being narrative. I was just wondering whether any of you have come across any books/journals which explain the philosophical underpinnings of narrative research?

Thanks a lot!
