the film review thread
C

Last year my new years resolution was to go to the cinema at least once a month for the year (as I never used to go but always said I wanted to go more) I've decided to keep it up for 2010. Recent films I've seen are Avater (good effects, but the plot was weaker than a cup of tea you forgot to put a tea bag in!) and Daybreakers, which I really liked, though there were a few holes in the plot it held my interest, right up to the end I was wondering how they were going to end it. Might go for Book of Eli or the road for Feb, leaning towards the Road I think.

I@m not sure I'll ever get a PhD - far too much procrastinting!
Well I've been through this thread with a fine toothcomb and added up the scores. Seeing as there were slightly different number of people judging each meal I've worked out an average score, then multiplied it by 4 so that it is comparable with the actual TV show. I'm also sad enough to put this all into an excel spreadsheet and could do all sorts of graphs or stats on the data if I get bored enough!

But enough of that the current scores are as follows:

Eska 31.2
Wal 32
PhDBug 28
Sneaks 25
catBond 34
Teek 27

PhDbug is the nicest marker with a mean score given of 9.625. Wal is the harshest marker with a mean score given of 6.4.

Dinner was lovely (though I am struggling to imagine what rosewater sorbet tastes like......did I say imagine I mean remember!)
Really enjoyed the trampoline up until Wal spewed on it. So glad I'd popped off to the loo at that point or might have been sick too. Will have to knock a point off for not suggesting bouncing BEFORE dinner!

Anyway the cat did try to con my stater out of me, gave her a bit of a shock when she realised it was roasted peppers and not salmon!

Overall 8/10 me thinks

Guilty Pleasures?
C

I have a few:
Reading that's life, though might not again as last time I got it the stories were so depressing I nearly cried on the train!

I actally prefer 'sh*t' TV to dramas/comedies/or half the time than watching films. I love come dine with me, wife swap, holiday showdown, shipwrecked, hollyoaks, supernanny, how clean is your house, location location location, grand designs, actually pretty much any housing programme.

Web forums. I also lurk on a parenting one. I don't know why, I have no kids! I first went there when feeling broody and just kinda end up there sometmes!

Ah my plan worked, get them drunk and they'll score high :p
PLus the cats are also trained hypnotists incase the booze didn't go down well!

Oh and they like serving the food. It's a game for them, watch out for the you tube clips of their hilarious japes while I was training them. Anyway who's next?

I remember the sushi one. Thanks for the link made my toes curl watching it again! I seem to remember that one being quite a nice one where they all pretty much got on too.

Now to mine for a veggie feast that'll turn even sneaks to eating vegetables (though I may have to check your handbags on the door to ensure no meaty contraband makes it in!)

I live in a Georgian terrace with high ceilings so the Christmas decs are still up as the ladder is broken. Dinner will be served by two cats that have been trained to carry trays on their backs. They shall be the only ones going naked tonight I'm afraid!

Drinks on arrival: Gin Mojitos served with canapés of puff pastry (bought sorry) olives and feta

Starter: Grilled Haloumi and vegetable kebabs served with mint and lemon dressing, toasted pitta bread and salad garnish.

Main: Leek, Lemon and asparagus risotto topped with rocket and optional vegetarian parmesan

Dessert: Meringue (please rise and don't burn!) topped with mixed berries with raspberry coulis

After dinner drinks: vodka espresso martinis (vodka, coffee liqueur, and vanilla sugar syrup, coffee shaken with ice and strained into martini glass)

If you would like a veggie option, I can easily make one.....

out of meat.

:-(

sorry it's a 4/10 then (and I've pinched one of your black tops as I realised I had toothpaste on mine! hope that's ok)

Goes to investigate punch.....mmm not sure what's in it but tastes nice. So long as it doesn't have washing up liquid in we'll be fine (someone genuinely added washing up liquid to the punch at an undergraduate party and we all drank it unknowingly!)

Not sure about menu, there's no veggie option for the main. Plus not a fan of mushrooms or camenbert. May only be able to eat dessrt........and have some more of the lovely punch...........tastes of elderflower, and champagne with a hint of strawberry.

8/10 love curry.

Now this thread is making me far too hungary and I'm too lazy and hungover to go and get food :-(

I've seen a few episodes where they've had outside help in the form of sons/nephew/neighbour as a server. Usually tastelessly dressed in boxers and a bow tie! So think servers is just about ok but help with the xcooking is a no no (though people sometimes do buy in and pretend!)

Anyway the menu looks amazing. If it tastes as good as it sounds then it might be a 10....but I might have to mark you down if you make us all go naked in the hot tub! I'm far too British and embarrassed for that!

I think PhDBug said she would go next. But it no menu is here by later this afternoon i can post my vegetarian feast, that will haopefully convert all you meateaters to the other side! I've been training the cats to put on a show too. Speaking of pets did anyone see the come dine with me where the host put her snake on the table at dessert and ir promptly did a poo right next to one of the guests cutlery!

sorry turned up late, taxi took me to xxxxxxxxxxxx close instead of xxxxxxxxxxxxx road.
I bought a mid range bottle of red and a cactus.
Anyway menu looks good nothing I particularly don't like and with so many courses you aint gonna go hungary! infact might have to knock off a couple of marks for too much food....think my trousers imght be about to split. 8/10

damn internet just lost my reply...think i pressed cancel instead of post :$

I love CDWM. I've spent many a happy sunday afternoon watching the omnibus! always think about what I'd cook too.
#gonna move to the taxi home bit where I secretly score the night.

As a veggie I'm horrified that I go plain boiled potatoes instead of dauphinoise. Iok I know that was exlpained but on CDWM they never listed to the explanation and then bitch about the same thing in the taxi home!) I also hate mushrooms but that's not really your fault. The sauce and beans were nice. And the quorn starter an interesting idea.

Didn't notice the take away pots. Had too much champagne for that (hic)
Anyway the score/......oops managed to drop all the cards on the floor....wait grabbed the 7 I'll give that as my mark (hic) (up)

Ethics
C

Do we really need to include the whole ethics form in an appendix? I don't really want to out mine in as the aims of the study (as listed on original ethics form) have somewhat not been achived and I don't necessarily want my examiners to know that!

post christmas marking mountain :(

i can send you some :-)
