I read it's about researchers turning the critical thinking that they apply to work on themselves.....
A Ph.D. is difficult, it's not surprising people struggle.

Double shock emoticon he is going to read some of my thesis when he is out of the office (no surprise lol) tomorrow for a meeting on Thursday. Triple shock emoticone he has agreed to my idea of arranging a schedule for him reading it!

BTW I was miserable in my 1-2 year as had no results and hung in thinkning it would get better if I got some results. It hasn't but I decided by my 2nd-3rd year I should stick it out as I was so far in. I get very low and my supervisor (and advisors) make me
I suppose it is just a balance between being miserable like most PhDs, or miserable enough to give up.

My supervisor is back!!!! (why no shock emoticon?)

He is phoning me back as of course busy and not had time to read my emails properly yet. Meanwhile I've found a permament job very locally I want to apply for

Changing project wouldn't help with the commute and possibly not liking the subject but supervisor relations are important. Finishing an MPhil might give you some kind of accomplishment/qualification rather than just giving up as you have invested 2 years of your time.
I hope you feel better soon.

To be a pedant....
if the examiners tell you something is wrong, will you have to correct it? Can they tell you minor things are wrong and you still get no corrections?

There was a guy on another thread who isn't having a 2nd viva but has major corrections

I'm definately looking for a temporary job then
I've started and hoped other people would agree.

Of course I've realised my supervisor has no reason to come in now he knows my thesis is waiting on his desk.
D'oh!

I find that if I've been working ages on something then hit a big problem I often want to give up. especially if I then need to enlist help from someone who may not be enthusiastic about helping.
I'm trying not to give up
It slows my progress and I'll take longer finishing, as ultimately will need to sort it out.
Excercise is supposed to be good as it releases endorphins etc. I hate it but have a DVD I can do for just 30 mins at home 5 times a week without taking too much time out.

I've written my thesis and my supervisor has NOT yet read the abstract/1 results chapter/most of lit review/conclusion. He has read 2 results chapters and I've made corrections.
My supervisor has been away (grrr) and is still not back. I thought half-term was over :-?

Is is reasonable to get a full time job at this stage? He is not known for fast thesis reading (of the 1 month plus timescale usually for 1 chapter, and it's a low priority).
I'm living mainly off my partner and a pitiful amount of overdraft :-(

I stopped getting funding last Sept, and got some ££ until Xmas from my supervisor. Is it reasonable for me to just inform him I'm getting a job, or do I ask?

Possible to get a mortgage when on a research studentship..?

That was we save £100 per MONTH

Possible to get a mortgage when on a research studentship..?

We went through a broker 4 years ago and the lenders refused to acknowledge my income so we had to be self-certified. We've now remortgaged and save over £100 which is what the new mortgage has increased by with interest rates rising.
I know someone at the beginning of a PhD who used payslips from his previous job, which is is a bit dishonest but worked.

Do you know during the viva if you are going to get minor corrections? Do they point out things they would have done differently all the way through, or do you find out at the end when they have had a private discussion?

What shall i do ?

What kronkodile said is spot on, and it's not reasonable to lose money on a PhD salary. It's his problem, I wonder why he is so keen and why he can't go. Maybe he loses money by not going?
It's a bad position to put you in.
