What's the most you've had to spend (begrudgingly or not) on something related to your PhD?

I'll be paying £75.00 for a BL duplicate microfilm next month. I have spent a fortune on books because my uni library has had its budget slashed.

I feel like I just scraped through my last panel. I am desperate to show progress next month. Ick. I have a meeting this week to discuss my work, and changes I can make in a month.

I can't afford a 1.5 year hole in my C.V and the loss of my stipend!

A year? No way. A year, even full time, is just about enough time to do a literature review and start to get a feel for your sources, material etc.
