Hmm, I've found an amazon copy of Prisma's woordenboeken for £10.94 so may well go with that. At 558 pages it seems pretty comphrehensive. Thank you!

I've managed to find an english translation of the largest source - but the smaller stuff needs working through. At least it is not a major case study (just an aside) so my 'translations' won't be critiqued!

I could probably 'get by' with a online dictionary but some of the teanslations aren't very sounding! I guess I'll look for a dictionary of a substantial size...

I've come across some Dutch primary and secondary material which will be quite useful to my thesis - can anybody suggest a Dutch dictionary? I can't speak dutch, but will only need a knowledge to transcribe picture/plate names and understand bibliographies.

Can anybody suggest a good Dutch dictionary - Amazon seems to have hundreds on it!!!

The primary material is 18th century, and the schlarship 20th century: I'm guessing this falls under modern Dutch?

The folks house is okay - but my sister sat her A level exam in a flooded college with torrential rain drumming down on the roof! She had to walk home in waist high water!

I finished my paper after an all-nighter and went to my parents in Sheffield to relax and collect some of my books and junk. But I have spent the last day cut off without electricity due to flooding. i JUS

What a nightmare! At least I managed to get the one train leaving in the morning (after three cancellations!) to Manchester. The poor people wanting to go elsewhere - well, sorry but no trains leaving Sheffield today.

Good luck everybody. I only have to spend Sunday on it now and it will be done. Well 'done' on the understanding that Wednesday night will be spent frantically incorporating sup's comments in the final draft. On Thursday I shall make a pyre and burn ALL material relating to this paper.

Rick - yeah, urm, 'desto' is one of those words in Swedish that I don't really know the meaning of it just turns up in phrases. And my dictionary isn't very edifying. It is used in phrases like 'ju förr desto bättre' - the sooner the better, which is VERY similar to 'ju fler desto bättre'. But yeah - your eagle eye spotted that is should be "the better" but the whole phrase is the equivalent to the English quip "the more the merrier". Anyway, yes, all is well. Though I am sick and tired of my paper - I have never been so thorough with a piece of work!
