Because you want to?

What is another word for "Thank you"?
C

I think it is important to balance between appearing human and warm and also being professional. I copy theses as part of my part-time job and reading some of the acknowledgements makes me want cringe or feel embarassed. I think thanking the partner, parents and supervisors is generally what it is all about - some people like to mention close friends who have supported them. It is also generous and good form to include those who have helped seed ideas or find resources - maybe people met at conferences or who have been in contact with you. Thanking library/archives in general terms is also a positive thing as long as it doesn't take up too much space. Some people but in anecdotes as to how their interest in their field developed - and some are charming, but others a bit *vomit noise here*.

I've read some really lovely expressions of gratitude and thanks to partners and they don't even border of mawkish or gushing. I would be incredibly touched to be acknowledged in such a way.

I will finish my PhD (I hope) in the same year my younger sister will finish her undergraduate degree, and my younger brother will finish his four year teaching degree. My parents will be besieged with graduations!!!!

Delayed gratification happiness:

a)there will be a illustrated thesis at the end that will look beautiful on my bookshelf and will be my surrogate child.

b) that I can get *with hope* a job that pays enough money to cover my bills

Instant Gratification:

a) my PhD really interests me - after work in call centres and retail I can 100% say that this is SO important.

One thing that makes me happy about my Phd is...

writing a conference abstract....

They were trying to upload some images from a digital camera up to the internet and onto their myspace account. They got collared by their lecturer since this had nothing to do with their computer session on quantative archaeology.

I am making progress - slowly. But I have to go home, the undergrads in the computer cluster are driving me crazy!

Trouble with my body clock

Because I work part-time too, I also do a majority of my work in the evenings / early hours. I always feel guilty about it - but, if I don't work - I don't eat. And although I don't know how long I can sustain this work pattern - the other option is not really attractive. No way out (except thesis submission).

I know for a fact I'll be up until about 2 tonight - and then rising for a seminar tmrw.

Anyone else working this weekend?
C

I've cooked a Swedish äppelpaj (apple pie) for tmrw, and now I'm nestling down to a ... slog at the computer writing...

...why can't procrastination last forever....
