Grob - I'm not sure. I meant that if I was rich enough I would buy and establish my own journal and get my work published in that!

Göteborg - anyone been? holidays elsewhere people?

Hmm, yeah it is going to be around -10 in Feb! The Swedish Venice sounds nice.

A holiday? ULUG - you've got to have some kind of holiday at some point, I'm not one of these PhD's that are willing to burn themselves out. Esp. in the first year - I may as well go on a long weekend whilst I can.

I'm of to Göteborg in Feb (Sweden) and having only been to Stockholm I have no idea what it is like - I got £42 return flights! Anyone been? I'm going for the regional heats of Melodifestivalen ( Swedish music competition)

Anyone got holidays planned?

I had in my lit review on the last day before the end of term, have a staff party the next day and that evening I'm on a train home down South to visit friends and then back northwards to visit my family...

How can I work when I have all this ahead of me....plus my mind is somewhat distracted by a new special someone ...sigh...

Get writing now.....

I know it is possible to write long extended pieces of work in a short period of time but it is sooooo difficult in December - at least I have a structure workout out so it should just be a case of typing up....

how old are all of you guys?

I'm in lovely rainy Manchester!

I'm 23....and feel prematurely aged. I do sometimes feel like I look like a little boy in comparison to the academics and RA's in the school. I guess I am in awe of them all, and that doesn;t make me feel very adult like!

would you quit your PhD?

No...but I would never work afterwards...instead I would luxuriate in my title as doctor and travel the world looking at animals and collecting them....maybe publishing now and then...if my work wasn't publishable in respectable journals...I would buy one or two and force them to publish my seminal works!

argh!!!!! (walking down upper brook street at 4.30 am with a mug of green tea on the way to Manchester computing)

hej! No...I got lost in the shadow of that ghastly inflatable Father Christmas that sits astride the town hall!

How is the lit review going? Mine is okay at the mo'..had a really good supervision yesterday - very confidence building!

I am a humanities student shared between departments within the School of Biological Sciences and Arts, Histories and Cultures...

What "Ch" unes have people got on today?
C

I'm going to do a bit of paid work, cram for my monthly supervision on Monday and while away hours sighing over cups of green tea whilst dreaming about my crush! Chris x

RE: Diesel trousers...buy em'! Go on! If there was ever an excuse to treat yourself...

I plan to wear a loose cotton smock to my viva -to prevent the buckets of sweat I will produce sticking to my clothing.

I'm loving endnote so much...

Just a pity it can't make a cup of tea. Whatever happened to those teasmade that used to be on bedside tables in the 70s?
