Hope nobody minds me upping this but I just happened to be reading across it... well things have changed , as they do. Haven't seen him since, have been in contact, asked if he wants to meet up but he's always busy.

Not a problem, have been out meeting other people, enjoying life. He still wants to meet up but he really is busy at the moment. I have no intention of waiting around.

A lot of people (even PhD students themselves) often have unrealistic expectations of what getting a PhD entails. You don't have to have a paradigm shifting blowout amazing viewpoint. It's about making a little mark more often than not, usually on the back of what others have done. I'm sure you'll be just great once you get into it further and find where you want to take things :-)

How did we get them then? I honestly can't remember!

Hi Raf, I personally moved to different unis for UG/Masters/PhD. However I came across many people who stayed on, all said they wished they had moved as it "wasn't the same" - memories, friends had moved on, the expectation things would still be the same but just never weren't.
