DOES THE TOPIC OF RESEARCH PLAY KEY ROLE IN FUTURE

What country is Reputed University in? It's a new one to me.

And what is SELF INTRST, I looked it up in a dictionary but there was no entry.

Glad to the know that Reputed University clearly has such high entry standard.

Can I be on here even though I passed my viva in December?

*flutters eyelids*:-x

What would happen in this situation?

I would get your application in asap as they can usually turn around the formal offer letter pretty quick - I applied where I was doing my masters and got the offer letter about a week later (even though I didn't accept it and they knew I wasn't going to).

Hi, not sure about specific programs or how studentships are advertised BUT one idea is to look at journals in the area and identify those publishing papers to see where they are based.

Love it, Slizor! You pwned the OP 8-)

If the entry requirement is to have a masters then it will mean a pass, unless they specify as part of the formal written offer anything different. What is on the formal written offer will be what stands.

SAS

Oooo yes, maybe it's about the SAS and not the rather dull statistical analysis software that I spend hours every day working with.

I think the former would be far more exciting :-x

Were you given a conditional offer for your PhD? And I mean, as stated on paper as part of the offer?

Erm, I have no idea what event studies are but I know a lot of SAS.

Thesis - devestated

Thanks for clarifying the situation.

I would ask your supervisor how long it will be before the examiners report is due to come to you or if she can't tell you this ask the registry directly. Without knowing why you failed, it's hard to know whether it or is not justified.

Have you had any problems with supervision generally? If the report comes back and you don't feel it is justfied and there have been problems, then you will probably need to lodge a formal complaint. Speak to the admissions tutor for your course, or the head of department, or get advice from your students union on this. However, you have to make sure that it is a genuinely unjustified mark and not just because you feel it is so.

Anyone else watching eurovision?

It was a bit rubbish this year, wasn't it. Nothing that really stood out. Nothing I can hum back this morning.

I went to a good party though, so that was fun!

Accomodation
D

I always lived in private accommodation and found it worked really well - for me. In my first year of my PhD, the Uni operated a housing open day for prospective postgrad students to meet each other and find places to live. It was really successful and I lived with some great people.

Having not lived in postgrad halls I can't comment on my personal experience. But having visited people who did, I think you would need to think very hard about doing so, especially if you have lived out as an undergrad. It was like walking back into undergrad halls again, lots of noise and mess. But maybe that was just the places I visited.

Hi MidnightOne. First and foremost try not to panic too much. I understand you are probably feeling quite low and unhappy about it at the moment, give yourself time to get angry and frustrated, then you need to look at what the options are.

Just to clarify, is this your masters thesis or your undergraduate thesis (just from the fact this is in "prospective masters" students and the time of year). The first time you were told to rewrite it, were you given a list of where the problems and did you address all of these? Have you been given a new list of why it has failed this time around? Who was it who marked this, was it the same person/people as the first time? Have you spoken to your supervisor since as well and what did they say?

Made some progress so what should I do?

As someone who used to work in spurts, I'd say if you're on a roll then go with it. It depends how much effort you find it to get going again if you do take the day off.
