I agree that tumble driers are EVIL. In fact they are positively worse than dishwashers. I would never trust my clothes in a tumble dryer.

I had a disaster yesterday. Was thinking to self in the morning how smoothly phd had gone to the extent I hadnt even lost any work on the computer. Went out for lunch, came back and - you guessed it - all the work I'd done that morning had not saved! Well, it wasnt a huge disaster but it felt it at the time!! oh well, its all over now

Exactly. They are a source of disruption. I'm going to petition for their ban outside parliament (may be on the weekend we all meet up in London?!)

Dishwashers - do they actually make people happier?

You have to pack them, empty them, and re-wash about half the things you put in them because they dont do the job properly. They use loads of water, the ecological ones break (apparently), and they leave funny marks on your cutlery.

I think I've kind of given up on them. I think its cos I havent had any major problems in my phd so they just assume I'm fine.

Aww thanks everyone! I only managed two pints last night, but it felt very well deserved. Now I'm packing to go on holiday. Yay!!

I just wrote the last sentence. I feel all emotional. Three years of hard work and its all over (well apart from the reference list etc.) CELEBRATING, OFF TO THE PUB, CAN'T BELIEVE ITS ALL OVER!!!!!!!!!!

I'm about to submit at the end of August and have more of less written up (hopefully finish the conclusion today - yes!!). Emailed my supervisors my last few chapters about 6 weeks ago suggesting some supervision would be good. Havent heard back from one of them, the other one said he can't meet up cos he's broken his toe! Feel a bit neglected. Am I being unreasonably demanding?!

I'm a bit confused. Surely the decision about whether or not to do a lit review is dependent on the research methodology rather than your supervisor?

I think it really depends on your subject area and field. E.g. I dont have a literature review at all (What no literature review I hear you gasp!) cos it doesnt fit in with my methodology. I reckon ask your supervisors, but sounds ok what you're planning to hand in now
