Put on about half a stone through first two and half years of PhD. Think this was due to procrastination. Now in last half a year and seem to be losing it rapidly ? due to stress of writing up, but strange as have increased chocolate intake to cope with late nights of writing, so not sure how this is happening

It response to your question DanB, maybe its because we dont have to be in a lab all the time, so need more self discipline as have less structure. I can go for months without stepping into my department. Its ok now as I have a routine, but I have friends in social sciences who havent done anything other than watch TV for months

I think its a good idea. It could benefit potential students and PhD supervisors alike.
It at least seems to have a point unlike some research projects Ive heard of (e.g. one that was researching what people have on their mantelpieces as a PhD project!!)

I agree, this year has gone very quickley. And I think its to do with submission date looming. Thought I had loads of time to write up, but now have about two months

now that I'm back on the forum, i thought I'd share with you the next horror of my academic career - Research fellow Interview next week 3.15 Wednesday. I have to do a 10 minute powerpoint presentation on my proposed research followed by 30 mins questions!! I feel sick. Anyone got any adice or experience of this sort of hell?

I dont sleep anymore. on the rare occasions when I become unconscious (unfortunately not due to effects of alcohol anymore, but due to sheer exhuastion) I dream about the next sentence I'm going to write on my thesis. or the scary research fellow interview I have next week ...

Aww. you're all so kind wondering where I am (except for Stu, but that's to be expected). I am still here, but life gone a bit crazy, getting up at 7 (Yes 7!!!) to write thesis up by end of July. Unfortunately no new man (so DanB if you're up for it, but dont want to take you away from Mia). Orlando just doesnt know what he's missing!!! Ummm, Orlando ........
