Dear all, I have lost a paper (arghh) and cannot access it via the uni on-line library or free sites. I think it was a paper version via the british library. Can anyone get a copy of this please?

Thank you.
Hi Corinne, I was very scared about re-reading my thesis. I knew of one 'page number quote' mistake after printing prior to submitting, so I knew it was not perfect lol. However, I recommend taking a few weeks out and then reviewing it. I had four weeks absence (2-3 away) from my thesis and to be honest it is easier seeing the errors or ambiguities with fresh eyes. I have realised that critiquing your thesis is just another skill to learn as part of the whole PhD process, so is nothing to be worried about, but embraced. I am trying to see the viva in a positive light, but have yet to find a way :$
Glad to see you have an advance date for your viva, I am envious. It is a worry with childcare to organise as well, particularly as my three only have a childminder for one afternoon a week. It will not be easy to get my three into childminder for any other day as she has other children then. Likewise for a childminder to be able to take all three (being so young) takes special approval from ofsted. I am really dependant on hubby or my family to look after them for my viva. So I shall take your advice and contact my two sups for any insider info (I am not panicking yet, really).
Hi everyone, well I am still chugging along with the viva prep. Based on the advice here, I planned to review each chapter in depth with post-its and clarification notes along the way. I have formulated about 12-15 questions that I will then need to answer and practice. As Bilbo has previously said, the thesis review takes some time and therefore I have some way to go yet lol. I am checking and reviewing the literature base at the same time too, noting any new or absent references. My corrections list is small but enough for me to be a little disappointed however they are all corrected now! It is great how re-reading the thesis makes you procrastinate some more lol.
So as yet the uni has made no contact regarding a viva date, which feels disappointing as I submitted six weeks ago. We will be moving in august so I really need it to be prior to all of the upheaval. I was also hoping (and asked for) for some extra notice for childcare arrangements as I will need at least an overnight stay..........oh well, I guess these things take time.
How long do you usually wait before a viva date is arranged?
It is difficult to establish exactly what a persons intentions are purely through gestures or comments as we can all take things out of context sometimes. That said, maybe you are right with your suspicions. If I were in your situation I would establish meetings with him only during the daytime, when others will be around. Make sure the meetings are held in an appropriate location. Keep the discussions related to your work rather than impeding on your social affairs. I would never concede to sexual favours in return for a PhD and if this is suggested then you need to seek advice from the university of sexual exploitation (although I sincerely hope this won't happen). Have you another supervisor you can consult regarding your PhD progress and completion? In the meantime, concentrate on your submission, you can submit without supervisors agreement (although not usually recommended). Additionally not all of your sups need to agree submission, just one will do!
Well done Ady, sounds like the thesis is progressing well with support from your sup too. I have to say with my thesis, there were areas I wasn't happy about but felt I could procrastinate no more, so it was submitted. My sups didn't raise any concerns about these areas so I was probably being a perfectionist :$ Hopefully, you will have your full draft very soon which then won't be long to submission. I am looking forward to hearing your update!
I think you need to decide if the career is most important or the PhD? If the career is priority, could you do the PhD on a part-time basis whilst working. This is not an easy option but may be one that allows both areas to be realised. In my case, once majority of data was collected I could work from home, a distance from the uni. Unless a PhD is needed for furthering your career, i do think you need to have an interest in/passion of the subject to be able to get through the tough times, particularly writing up. If you do give up on this one, another may come along later in life as in my case.
Hi and well done for embarking on a PhD journey. A similar thread was posted a while ago and I remember commenting on it then, so here is the link

I remember being rather nervous and a little intimidated by the magnitude of my up and coming studies, but to be honest I was put at ease and the meeting went really well. Not sure why I felt so worried when the whole proposal was mine and an externals idea lol. Hope this link is helpful!
Wow, well done Pink Numbers on your draft chapters. It is a relief to have everything drafted as the task of editing, modifying and finalising it all is much easier if a little tedious. Just check your word counts and limits now the chapters are drafted so you know if you need to edit should anything be added! On the final road to submission now then (up)
Morning summer submitters, how is everyone getting along? I have to say that the two long BH weekends have really got me out of studying mode, too many days out shopping, bbq'ing, taking babies to the beach etc lol. Ok really must start working on my viva prep although difficult when I have no viva date to work to :-( I plan to have a skype tutorial with my uni sup soon to help motivate me, must get that arranged.
It is good to see progress happening in this thread, Slowmo and Fm, really not long now - well done. KB well done on your publication, a geat motivator! It will be fab to see everyone gradually submitting over the summer, perhaps a viva thread needed then :p
I watched what I could with three 'not so interested' bambinos who would have rather watched cbeebies! I thought it was lovely, although I did think Kate looked a little uncomfortable at one point in the Abbey. Not surprising she had some nerves with such amazing pomp and circumstance! I think given her background, she has acted with much dignity and poise and will do well within the royal family. Pippa looked stunning in a very simple dress and the little bridesmaids were so cute. They couple seemed very happy and I hope they have a better and happier marriage than Charles and Diana. How long before the tiny patter of feet is announced then lol?
Thats great news Pineapple! At least the external is fully aware of the length of the thesis so the viva should go ahead for June. I may be having mine at about the same time, although I have yet to get a date. I am glad that you have seeked some counselling help as you must have been under huge amounts of stress and a magnitude of other feelings, I really hope this will help you to succeed.
Good luck with the viva prep (up)
