I had the same problem and my supervisor advised me that in quotes I should not change the spelling. Even if it is wrong.

Here I am again after being away from the forum for quite some time (I have a good excuse for that as I was staying at a village during the summer where the internet connection was AWFUL)......

So, I am starting my PhD work now (I was at my "real" work until an hour ago) and my first goal for today is to finish editing section 2 of literature review.

Regarding my work.... I came to the UK yestarday and today I have a meeting with my supervisors to discuss 2 of my analysis chapters (one is quite good and the second is awful). I will get their feedback and move on from there.

I have also set a new goal for me. To have a full decent first draft by October. It seems quite easy, as I have literature review (2 chapters), methodology, analysis (2 chapters) almost ready and introduction, conclusion and 3rd analysis in 1st draft.
BUT I am working full time, I live in Greece and English is not my first language. These along with the hot Greek summer (yestarday it was 35 degrees) make my goal quite difficult to accomplish... But I will try!!!!

I realy liked this thread, as I am hoping of completing around October, too...

I am wrting up at the moment, and I have almost finished with my 2 literatute chapters, methodology and 2 analysis chapters. I have first drafts (that need work) of my third analysis and of introduction and conclusion.

At the same time, I live in Greece, my first language is Greek (I am writing in English) and I work full time at a jov completely irrelevant to my PhD.....

Fingers crossed I will be finished by October......

I am taliking about people who are mothers, fathers, carers for elderly people etc (have a caring role) and at the same time they are leaders. My analysis show that they seem to behave in a caring way in their organisation, as well (their workplace). But, this approach to leadership, seems to affect their peronal lives, as they tend to "carry" the issues from the organisation around (because they adopt a caring style, they do not leave everything behind).

Does it make more sense now????

I have a problem with a sentence.
I need to rephrase it, but my mind seems to have stopped since yesterday.

The phrase is: "the emphasis is on the way they are seen to have extended their caring roles into the workspace, in the way they approach leadership and in the impact this has on their lives"

Could someone please help me?????????

It's a very late start for me, as I just woke up.... I had a really late night yesterday (don't know why), so after work today I decided to take a nap and I ended up sleeping for 3 hours.....oupsss

So, for today:
1) Check chapter 2 for flow and references
2) Call a friend and arrange a meeting to pick up keys.

Did not make good progress today...
I managed to finish my first goal (finish the reference sof the awful chapter) but then I had to stop, because I had a new pellet stove installed (getting ready for winter!!!) and after that I had to clean up the mess...

So I guess the other two goals are being moved for tomorrow.....

After a long time off the forum, here I am again.

During this period I finished (just a few things to add here and there) my second analysis chapter and I have wrritten an awful first draft of the third analysis chapter, which I have to send to my supd on Monday.

So my goals for today:
1) Finish references of the awful draft
2) Read it and try to make it more decent (if possible)
3) Write a schedule of introduction

I have (give or take a few words):

Intro: 9,000
Theory1: 9,000
Theory2: 6,000
Methodology: 12,000
Analysis1: 9,000
Analysis2: 11,000
Analysis3: 6,000
Conclusion: 5,000

I believe I can stretch my theoretical chapters a little bit more so that they get at 10,000 and 8,000 words respectively and I can have 70,000....

I have also included my contribution to knowledge and have told quite a few about the historical background of my study, because it is necessary in order to understand the country and the context....


It is very difficult for me to find someone to read it, as I am Greek, living in Greece and my thesis is in English.... I have planned to give it to someone who is native speaker of English just to check grammar and for typos, but not the content...

As I am currently writing up (and really struggling with it) I was wondering, when it is said that the thesis should be up to 80,000 words, what is the lowest limit?
My university does not clarify that and my supervisor told me to aim for 80,000.....but what if I can't reach it (as I think I won' be able to)?
