Hi there!
A PhD needs a lot of time. I am doing mine part-time and I work full-time at the same time. Now I am in the writting phse and I can say that things are a little easier than they were when I was in my first year and I did all the studying.
A master degree also needs a lot of time, especially if it is in a language ifferent than your mother language.
I don't know if it is possible to do it, and I mean if it is possible physically and mentally. PhD work is so much, having master essays and exams on topo of it, sounds almost impossible.
And something else, will your PhD be on a different area than your master? If it will be, do you think that you could shift between subjects easily? I work in education and my PhD is in education, as well (but on different aspects) and I find it difficult....

Undergrad Supervisor issues - will that affect my PhD?
E

During my second master I had a really bad supervisor. He didn't offer any help, he didn't answer any of my questions, he was telling me to change things and then in his feedback he was telling me that these things were wrong and the correct ones were in the first draft, and so on! On top of all these, he believed that I shouldn't have been studying in a British University, because I am not British, and that I was a crap student, not worth of a postgraduate degree (I had another master from a better uni but he was saying that I got it out of pity!!!!).
I never asked him for a reference of course. I got my references from my undergraduate teachers, with whom I have excellent relationships (the ones I had during my first master have just disappeared from the uni and I couldn't locate them).
I was accepted at all the unis I applied for PhD and I never had any problems.
I don't know whether my former supervisor has contacted my present one, but even if he has, I don't care. I have a very good relationship with my current supervisor, she helps me a lot, gives me really good feedback and understands me and my research.

Good luck with whatever you do!!!!!

And I keep going on......
E

Thank you both very much. You are so supportive! I really needed this encouragement...

I have the full support of my family (my dad even threatened to go and kick him out literally)! I also have very good friends who are always next to me and try to take me out of the house....

I just needed to tell someone else. Someone who is going through the same difficult process (PhD) and understands better than anybody else why I am so frustrated.....

I think that studying keeps my mind away, so I am doing this until I go to my uni and then, I have promised myself that, I will take a full week off, just sleeping and doing nothing (except from going to work, as I can't take any days off).

Thank you again!!!!!!!

And I keep going on......
E

I am in my 3rd year of a PT PhD and I work FT in Greece. I have started writing, so things are still difficult.
At the same time, I moved to a bigger house, because my boyfriend (3.5 years together came to live with me). I had to deal with another person, clean, cook, iron etc and study at the same time.
Yesterday, I broke up with him and kicked him out of the house because he didn't respect me or my work (he kept saying that he is the only one working and that studying is not work).
Now, I have to adapt to the new reality and at the same time prepare for my visit to the uni, next week, and for all the work that I have to present there.....
I feel that there aren't enough hours in the day............... Last week is always very difficult as I have 3-4 meetings with my supervisor in a week and so many tasks for these meetings. But now this came and made it more difficult.......

Sorry, but I had to talk to someone..........

Entering my 3rd year...
E

2 years have passed. 2 years full of studying, researching, writing, presenting and at the same time working FT abroad.
They were 2 difficult years, but I enjoyed the whole procedure.
Now I am starting my 3rd year and my second draft of the 1st Analysis Chapter....
What I expect for this year? To be tired!!!!!!!!!! But I will go on, no matter what! (up)
Good luck to all!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. It is 35 degrees here (has been over this since the beginning of Jule) and I am stuck in front of the computer............. Everybody else is at the beach......:-(:-(:-(:-(

PGF Drinks/Dinner in London week of 30th August
E

I would like to come too, but I will be in the country (and in London) only for theweek starting on the 12th......
Maybe arrange a meeting then????????????????:p:p

Do you study at your cubicle or home?
E

I am living in another country (Greece) and doing my PhD in UK.
Obviously, I am studying at home after work (I work FT with children with SEN). But even if my uni was close, I don't think that I would go there to study, as I like having everything around me, having all my papers printed and with scribles (I am a little old fashioned and can't read from the screen, prefer paper!!!).....
In my uni there is a huge room for post graduates (over 20 desks) and I guess it would be very difficult to work there....

As for reading out loud...it annoys my cat, so I never do it...

Conference proceedings
E

A paper of mine is included at conference proceedings. Should I include it in my CV as a publication? I already include the paper as a conference presentation....
Thank you!
