Hey all.
Just an update......
I have to handle in a full draftby the end of the month. I have decnt drafts of all my chapters, but they still need work (especially my third analysis chapter).
I have planned to do a chapter each day and i hope i will do it. I mean i hope that i will have the physical strength to do it, because i work ft at a job completely different from my research, a job that also needs studying and researching.
Today imanaged to finish the firstanalysis chapter.
So, i'm off for today
Good luck to all
To tell you the truth, if it was my research, i would interview boys as well inorder to see what they think about it. Maybe not as many as the girls, but i believe that they could give some intersting insights.
As far as the researcher is concerned, i think that as long as you ackowledge the issues that you will potentialy face bc you are male and African-Amertican, you won't have any otner issues. The children will open up.
Finally, in qulitative studies data isx alwasys biased. You cannot explain something without being influenced by your own experiences and perceptions. This you also have toacknowledge in your methodology
Hey all!!
I'm hoping I will submit in 2014, too!!!
I'm part time, self funded, work full time, based in another country, studying in the UK and my native language is not English.
Finishing line or (as I prefer to call it) light at the end of the tunnel seems close.
I have to submit a first full draft of the thesis by the end of February. I have drafts of all chapters and I just need to pull them together and make a text that flows.
Fingers crossed its should not t ake me more that 10 days and then, after taking a few days off, I can re-read the whole thing and then send it to sups.....
I have done it. I have a "normal" work in a field quite different from my phd.
I have published 3 papers frtom work-related research and i have 5 conference papers in the last years.
It does take tyimer off from my phdf, but i have to do tyhe studying fgor my work, i have tyhe research sample available, bao why not writer it up as a paper for a journal or a conference.
Hey!!!
So...after a weekend with no work (it's my rule never to work on weekends as I need to rest) tomorrow it's going to be the last day on my work before Christmas. I'll be off till 2/1 and then I work again on 7/1.
So plenty of time (I think) to work on my thesis.
For tomorrow (as I don't know if I will be able to log in) I want to finish working on the 3rd analysis chapter. It is a big thing to aim for, as I have lots of things to redraft, but I will try!
Good luck everyone!
Does anybody have access to

Hey all!
One more time I decide to participate in an accoutability thread.....I just hope that this time it will keep me accountable!
So, a few days ago I had a meeting with my supervisors and they told me that they want a first full draft by March. This may sound as a lot of time, but working full time in another country on a completely different subject which also needs research and presentations and seminars, having as a first a language different than that of your thesis which is in English and being a part time student do not help at all!
To keep a long story short, I have to put my head down (is there an expression like that?) and keep going!
I have drafts of all my 7 chapters, that need to be put together and form a complete, coherent text.
So for today, I want tocwork and (possibly) finish my introduction.
Hi!
I am form Greece, living and working in Greece, with Greek as native language. I am doing a PhD in the UK.
I've been travelling to the UK every 3 months in order to meet with my supd and discuss my progress. Now I am nearly finished (NEARLY, not there yet).
It has been hard, as I was here alone doing research and working. I am away from everything that happens in the university (seminars, student groups, networks etc). And the most important issue for (which I gues it is not an issue for you) is the language barrier! Writing in a langiage other than your own, is very tricky!!!!
BUT, if you have a tight schedule and you stick to it you can do it. Regular meeting with sups (even via email or skype), and strict deadlines are the things that you should for. And most importantly, willingness to finish!!!
