Hi Fluffymonster, and welcome. To answer your question, appendices do not count, nor do words under figures or in/uder a table...I am surprised at refrences counting, as normally they don't (as I would have 5000 words already from them).

I use babelfish if can to get the context of the abstract, but most of my texts are through inter-library loans.

Anyone got any tips on translating journal articles? I did 2 years Italian, along with 5 in Latin, and trying to read papers in Italian...is there any easier way than settling down with a dictionary and looking up every third or fourth word?

Don't ask! It's climate stuff, also has Ancient Greek and Latin...backing up what I may find on the ground!

I have me, the net & some Italian to read...maybe I will finish good omens instead (I have no tv, so no x-factor...and didnt buy alcohol earlier)!

My boyfriend has been my best friend for the last two years, and we caught up within my first weekend moving south, and decided that we wanted to be more than mates following that meeting!

I have to give my supervisor a weekly report on a topic, sometimes related to my literature review sometimes not. Is anyone else suffering from brain fart, overload of information and they cannot quite see how it fits with there topic? I feel my brain is going to explod with all this physics (I last did Physics in 1993)...ah!!!

This wasn't my supervisor, but someone else's, but was to me. I have one of those banana guard holders, and he said what is that...it reminds me of one of my sex toys! The girl he supervises didn't know where to look, and everyone else just stared at him (he is normally very quiet and timid)!

Which funding body are you with? I am with AHRC, and not heard mine will increase in my 2nd and 3rd year. There are people on departmental studentships, and they are on less than 11k. If in doubt contact your funding body, they should be able to answer directly.
