After my first masters, probably 5. I got offered one, but they did not have funding, they promised me they would get some but it did not appear, so I pulled out. From the other 4, I had 4 interviews, 2 I made the reserve list for. Another one, 3 or 4 years later I still have not heard anything from (I did have an interview). After my second masters, I graduated last year, I applied for one this year . I was thinking of doing a PhD, I saw an advert for a research assistant, and after emailing my now supervisor several times with questions about her research, she asked me to apply for the PhD, which I have accepted and has full funding. My moral is don't give up if you really want to do a PhD, by the time I was offered this one, I knew exactly what I wanted from a PhD, unlike a few years back, and I know myself better.

I have never come across anything suggesting that (I have two masters degrees), but I have found mark schemes vary from university to university, Are you doing a masters at the same place as your undergraduate?

Well she came to me with the topic, and to do a PhD, after I emailed her about something to do with her research.

I am moving next week for starting my PhD, and as such will be out of email contact. Do you think I should email my supervisor to arrange our first meeting, as I only have details of registation and a general induction, not even a departmental one. Also, anything I should bring with me to that meeting. Cheers.

The department concerned is in a bad way, so I think anything goes (judging by what other PhD students have said in the department). Howwever, personally I would n't want to risk loosing my stipend, and will play it safe.

I am don't worry, I have done, was just curious to see what others thought.

If you knew someone breaking the conditions for the maximum working allowance, should you warn them or not...could they possibley loose their funding? This person is doing 20 hours a week, plus full funding from AHRC, so they can help pay the mortgage,
