According to the research student's handbook from last year (for the uni & department I am about to join) the main roles of the Supervisors are to:
(i) keep in regular contact with the student;
(ii) offer advice to the student on both academic and personal problems;
(iii) give general guidance and advice to the student on the progress of his/her research;
(iv) give advice and instruction on research methods appropriate to the student’s study;
(v) report to the Director of Research on the student’s progress;
(vi) give advice on the preparation of the student’s thesis and to encourage him/her to write up the thesis before leaving the University and in any case before the lapse of four years;
(vii) present a written progress report annually to the student at the point of re-registration.

They realised that 4 of them would have to sell their bodies on ebay, another 2 would sell mooncups, with a further 2 to busy arguing and being angry with eachother, thus leaving one to actually do the PhD.

Is anyone done any of the postgraduate training done by the Physical Geography Midlands Consortium before? Any tips? Or is anyone (apart from me) going to be starting a PhD at one of the memember universities and will under take the courses?

I have not spoken to mine in over 10 years, he was a pediatric neurologist...and certainly knew nothing about printing!

Claudia, all I know is to register on the 2nd or 3rd! I have booked myself (at my supervisor's suggestion) on a research induction day on the 19th, beyond that its all a mystery. I was suppose to be going to Italy, as part of my research, but that has been put back till Spring 2007.

Rena, as I have said on many threads (sorry for the repeat folks), geography (but I am not a geographer...hard to explain that one to folks).
