Woohoo, you enjoy that drink, you have earned it! Congratulations Dr Tina. Thanks for the info on the questions, I have mine soon and it is always helpful to hear other people's experiences.

PhD viva tomorrow
F

Best of British! You will be fab.

What's everyone doing this weekend?
F

Ok, oddly enough I live in Brizzle, so hope you have a good time. Sadly, I have more domestic type things to do such as decorating (I should really start preparing for my viva though!)

why does nobody reply to my posts?
F

Well I can't say I have noticed and I am sure it is not deliberate at all Bobby. Hopefully my reply will cheer you up a little (even if it is not saying anything exciting).

My choice of examiners...what do you think?
F

Sounds good. I am not so sure about the internal. He sounds a good choice but you don't mention whether he is sympathetic to your methodology etc. If so, then great. It's a stressful process isn't it!

Over-qualified and can't get a job....
F

Who says you are overqualified? People may well differ from dept to dept. You would have an obvious advantage if the dept you are applying to wants to expand their research etc. Please don't panic yet, you have come too far already.

Over-preppin', over-stressin' - am I the only one that does this?
F

Yes, you are not alone. That is me also. I am always stressing about things not being done, not being good enough etc.

How to find a validated questionnaire?
F

Hi

No such one database I'm afraid. I had to obtain lots for my PhD too and basically did a combination of a few things.

1. Checked the article to ensure the questionnaire was not included (some do!)
2. Emailed the author and asked for a copy. Many were very helpful!
3. Googled (especially searching for the questionnaire title using the advanced search facility).
4. I also emailed other people who had used the questionnaire and asked them for a copy (if the author could not be traced or did not reply).

This site may be of use to identify some questionnaires and where you can get them.

My dept also has a test library so I found two or three there. I would be worth asking in your dept as people maybe using questionnaires of use to you already.

Good luck!

First conference coming up!
F

I would ask too. I have done that, it usually does not cost more so I can't see why they would mind. Hope they say yes.

What do PhD students wear?
F

I am in a similar situation to Ann. If I am teaching or at the hospital then I dress smarter, other than that, anything goes.

Any other distressed psychology PhD people out there?
F

Yes, hope all goes well for you Trixie

Home sweet home!!!
F

Yay, great news that you are home. I hope you are feeling much better now.

confess - how much preparation did you do for the viva?
F

You are all so helpful, thanks Ann, Krondile and Djwickid.

It's really helpful to hear of your experiences. No doubt, I will be posting more about viva panic in the near future!

confess - how much preparation did you do for the viva?
F

Thanks Ann, your reply is realy helpful. I submitted on 5th Feb, so very recently.

Congrats on the pass without corrections, that is fantastic! According to the person conducting the viva workshop I went to last week, approx only 1.5% people get no corrections at all.
