harvard referencing - stupid question!
F

Hiya

Apologies in advance if this seems a silly question. I am just formatting my references as I am hoping to submit soon and I am slightly confused about something.

Refs have to be harvard style which is fine. I have used endnote web and this seems to capitalise all of the authors' surnames (e.g. BANDURA, A.). Is this right? I have never referenced this way and did not think harvard style required this. Have I just had it wrong all these years? I would normally write Bandura, A. (1977) etc.

Thanks.

Glad you said that Pea as I am about to be 30 next week and I am a bit scared to say goodbye to my 20s!

Thanks for the link. I have now attempted to summarise 3 3/4 years worth of work into 300 words and am awaiting constructive comments.

don't you just hate it when....

You have my sympathy, it's really annoying.

Hello fellow Phd people

I can actually see some light at the end of the tunnel with the Phd now and am at the stage of writing the abstract. It has to be 300 words but I am really struggling with this. I have written quite a few conference and paper abstracts before so generally am ok. The problem I am finding is how you summarise separate studies in one 300 word abstract. E.g., samples are different so how is this possible?

Does anyone have any great pearls or wisdom (or chocolate)?

Thanks!

I think you have hit something here, I too have the GP type scrawl across chapters. To be honest, I try to remember all of the verbal comments as I have given up with actually reading any! This usually means a quick typing session after any supervision.

Just heard some bad news

I hope Athina is feeling much better soon.

I completely agree with thecoastman, he has given some great advice.

I am sure you can turn things around, it is a matter of sticking with it. Feel free to post here anytime and we can offer the support you seem to be missing and we all need it!

I got ripped to pieces by my supervisor

Hiya

With regard to keeping up with everything, I find that getting databases (e.g. Web of Science) to email me with recently published articles that meet by given key words helps. Also, I subscribe to the table of contents from relevant journals in my area so that I can try to keep up to date with things. Apologies if I am stating the obvious and I realise you may well do these things anyway!

Best of luck

PS - The first time you do things like journal club is always scary, it will get better.

IS THIS NORMAL?!

Hi driven2insanity

I agree with the others. These are not acceptable comments from your supervisor. I wonder if it would be worth maybe chatting informally to your director or studies or maybe other students (if she/he has other students).

I hope you manage to get this sorted (or develop a thicker skin!) It's hard enough doing a PhD as it is without comments like that.

Best of luck.

had my viva this afternoon...

That is fantastic, I hope you celebrated in style.
