I live in Italy but come back to the UK for the dentist - it is much cheaper in the UK than in Italy! (BTW I'm talking about a private dentist not a NHS one!)
Ooo I got away lightly at the dentist today- no treatment required apart from an appointment for scaling/polishing etc.
I do have one tooth that now requires a replacement porcelain crown & root canal (never had that before!! yikes), but I can leave it be for now. It will cost hundreds even with my dental insurance. :-(
As I left the dentist, the receptionist presented me with a piece of paper with scores for the condition of my teeth. My teeth had been graded! I got 97 out of 100. It's a shame I never got that type of mark in my degrees!

Fear of "the dentist" or "dentists" is pretty common. Even if you've had the misfortune of running into 10 dentists, none of whom was particularly kind and caring, and one or two of them who were downright horrible, this does not mean that ALL dentists conform to this "pattern".

Hi. For children, there are actually dentists specially trained; also community dentists (NHS) for those with phobias. Wish my dentist suggested it for my son years ago-- he goes no problem now! Remember play therapists also-- they are excellent.Yes- the whole of paying for treatment- dentist, prescriptions, care homes- needs reviewing but how is the Government to fund it?
