Oooh Tractorgirl, it was great, wasn't it!! Really good episode!! It made me jump a few times too, but don't worry about the spooky noises, as long as it's not loud gum chewing sounds (!!) and you haven't got any corpses at home, you should be ok! Did you notice all the van Dykes in the opening credits? I wondered if they were Dick's son's kids? And yet another deranged medic in that hospital too... I was a bit worried about that medium drooping her hair so near those candles too, singed hair is not good (quite smelly).
My work's going well at last, so will get back to it. See you later!
Hi
Ruby, your message really made me laugh!!! Brilliant, will definitely watch out for people who chew gum loudly!!!! know what you mean about the van dyke family members!!! They all seem to pop up in the episodes!!
How is your work going? Hope everything is going well.
I thought i would post an update as i am now going to have a bit of a break before starting again. I think a nice hot bath would be good! Anyway, i am half way through Chapter 1 and then i need to tackle the page number issue so fingers crossed!!!
Anyway, speak later on.
PS Ruby, i also loved the comment about another deranged medic!! Remind me never to get treated in that hospital ever!!!!!!!
Hi everyone,
It looks like we all kept our heads down today; the forum was pretty quiet.
Do you know how it feels when you find a fiver or a tenner in your pocket when you did not remember it was there in the first place? Well today it happened to me but with written text. It turns out that while I was reading, I came across some arguments that made me remember something I wrote long time ago, but that I discarded because I wasn't using that particular theory in the thesis. Nevertheless, I remembered that the introduction I wrote for that proto-chapter that never saw the light, could be used for the big section which is the second half of the chapter I'm working on at the moment. So, thank God for Google Desktop I found the paper and brought the said piece to my current document. I increased the word count by over a thousand words and fits perfectly with the subject... yay!!!!
Other than that, I finished reading for the next section and found the link to my arguments and have been editing until now. But I still feel I bit frustrated because I can not finish this chapter :-s
Anyway, I hope that you girls did much better than I did. I'm tired now, and I'm going to take a shower and have some dinner before going to bed, but I'll keep an eye on the forum to read your updates.
Back soon,
Hi,
I've had enough for today and am off to bed, as am in danger of writing complete crap - I can tell because I can't remember alternative words and phrases I've written loads of times over the years which should be second nature by now, so it is time to stop!! I had a break late afternoon which went on till quite late (9.30ish....ulp) as I'm a bit lacking in willpower today, and also a friend rang up who'd just come back from an artist in residence trip to a Franciscan monastery, so we had lots to talk about. I have finished that pesky blurb for that exhibition though, but will check it through tomorrow before I send it off. Have no idea why I've dragged it out for so long, but will be extremely pleased to see the back of it. Oh yes!!!
Armendaf, your find sounds very serendipitous! Great if it can help you get that chapter out of the way.
Tractorgirl, hope you got more done after your DM session! Hope you don't think I meant all noisy gum chewers are liable to be murderous swine though, but I was impressed that they spotted the culprit through his slightly disgusting gum chewing habits - subtle but clever detective work on the part of Dr Sloane yet again!
Lara, how's it gone today? Hope things are ok, you have done an awful lot recently to be really pleased with and have covered so much ground in the last few days.
See you tomorrow.
Hi
Sorry it is such a short message but i am really tired now. I agree, when you start writing rubbish because of lack of sleep it is time to stop!!!!
Anyway, well done to everyone today and good luck for tomorrow.
Tomorrow i have a couple of interviews (joining job agencies to try and get some work from October onwards, fingers crossed!) so might not get a chance to post till late so hope everyone has a brilliant day tomorrow.
x
PS forgort to post my aims: After interviews, re-read chapters and check page numbering is correct and look for general mistakes throughout all the chapters. Also check the abbreviations are all there.
OK, this is my first post in this thread but wanted to join the writing partners for few months now. I seem to lack the motivation a bit in terms of sticking to my plans which I must say are very well written down and detailed. So, here is the plan for today. BTW I'm at the beginning of my writing and a summer finish is what I aim for although finishing earlier would be a bonus.
chapter -2 results section
- start doing the graphs and tables
- describe each of these
- go for the detailed analysis after lunch
fingers crossed (although I wouldn't be able to type like that)!

Armendaf, that is absolutely fantastic finding those "lost words" !! so glad to hear it fits so well, what a lucky find indeed!! good luck with the chapter.

well my update from yesterday, in total i did 8 hours of productive hours. i've been looking through my "writing diary" and thats the maximum i can obtain on any day no matter what. but i didnt finish the discussion section of chapter 4. i wrote 1,167 words. but i did edit my discussion section from my 1st draft, and i know where to "slot" in the extra writing i am now doing, so its all planned out, which is good.
i wanted to stay up ALL NIGHT and push myself, but in the end i just couldnt do it. i even thought i would take a nap at 12.30am , but i kept extending the 15 minute powernap and in the end it was like 2am, and i still was too tired to get up again and continue writing. i have realised, that its just not possible, and i should just concentrate on getting as much done and realise i do need sleep to function. i heard that sleep is very important its when your brain is able to make connections and formulate ideas etc.
i must i must finish the discussion by early afternoon!! i am sticking myself to the chair, until it is done!!
i am starting the egg timer in the hopes it can speed me up. will pretend i am in an exam room!
i have 3 mini sections to write. have already written about 1000 words for the first section. and have about 30 papers to comment on. time to be speedy gonzales!!!
good luck everyone.

Ruby and TG , love your talks about diagnosis murder, you two crack me up!!
and Ruby i had no idea that they were real father and son till you pointed it out and i watched it the other day and saw his name, so funny.
Can I join in please!
I have 7 weeks to go until my deadline and am starting to panic about how quickly the weeks fly by!
I am meeting my supervisor tomorrow to agree on the final thesis structure, chapter by chapter (finally!! It keeps getting changed which is not good when you are writing to form a logical argument through your thesis!)
So, before the meeting tomorrow, I aim to have finished editing and checking the chapters she gave me feedback on and have a plan for my next 7 weeks that I WILL follow ready to show her also.
I am working at home today waiting for British Gas to come over...no heating....freezing...no chance of feeling sleepy!!
Good luck today everyone and hope your days go well.
Here goes!!

Good morning girls,
I'm glad to hear that you are all making good progress.
Lara, you are doing great, do not panic. For what I can see, you have a great capacity to produce writing; believe me, that is the most difficult part of it all. Just do not get sucked into trying to use everything that you've read. The important thing is the argument and that you get your message across. There will be some information you will have to cut off, nothing wrong with that, just make sure that the overall makes sense and every point is well justified.
TG, best of luck with the interviews and we expect a full report when you are back ;-)
Rubyw, I hope you are feeling refreshed now and that worlds are coming to you more easily, tell us how's that going?
Minamina and Sheena, welcome to the forum, the more the merrier. please feel free to post as often as you want and keep us informed of your progress. It does help a lot.
THANK YOU Armendaf, i needed to hear that, to calm me panicky state!! thanks so much for the kind words regarding the writing. and you are so right! i have to focus and stick to the arguments and evidence and not to go OTT And try to include everything in the discussion that i have read. thanks for that :-)
Minamina, WELCOME! wow another recruit, today is recruitment day, great stuff!! good luck with your writing, and dont worry 7 weeks is plenty of time to get your thesis done!! as long as you keep at it. Like Armendaf said, post as much as you like as frequently as you like, i always like hearing about peoples updates.

well it's been 2 hours of writing, and my brain is now tired and is saying "no.more.words." i've reached the "ugh" stage, so i am going to take a little break.
in the past 2 hours of writing, i have written 717 words. i just need to comment on 2 more papers and then i am done with section 1, and i have 2 sections left.
okay break time.
hope everyone is doing okay. its nice to know, ya'll are working away. :-)
okay i'm clocking back in. just went to my garden and walked around in the lovely sunshine, felt so nice. its amazing when your cooped up inside writing, how the little things seem like such a luxury! i realised i dont think i've been outside my house for a week! although the weather has been atrocious. the sun is hidden now behind the clouds, so i dont feel so bad that i've come back in.
okay i'm setting my egg timer to 30 minutes and i am going to finish section 1!!! grrrr :-s its time for war lol
Armendaf i am taking your advice! and i keep thinking i dont need to write about everything i have read and all the papers. because then my discussion section will turn into a thesis of its own!
thought i would come in for a quick update:
finished section 1 (hurrah!) total words written since the last time i clocked in was 930 words. i wrote for an hour and half. then took an hours break to chat to my best friend who needed some advice and i havent chatted to her in ages, so that was nice.
so total words for section 1 of extra stuff is now at : 2814 words. add that to the 2000 words written back in july, probably 1500 now, cause i edited stuff out.
approx 4314 words.
now i have about 2 sections left to write and probably about 20 papers left to comment on.
so now i am going to be extra diligent and try to write only 1000 words for the 2 sections. and i was thinking of adding another section, but i think i am going OTT now, so will keep it to a few sentences instead.
okay next aim: write section 2: 1000 words.
thanks for listening, i know its boring to read, lol but helps me to think out loud.
