I was in that same place and got out of it when I finally got the studentship. But its a whole new load of downs (..less ups) after the process and when u actually doing the work. So, just remember this part is the first of many...to come. Keep up the spirit and try a few more, there is some time left in the race

I'm 40-something and while I haven't secured a studentship I have turned one down [that the same thing?]. I'm very young looking for my age though. I could pass for late-twenties in the right light.

Good fortune really. Can't say I looked after myself in my youth sadly. I think making a big thing of the benfits of age/expereince is better than playing down your age [my opinion].
