I know I'm almost a year late but I must say that, all of you in here who took a piss at this dude's problem need to get a life! Just because you handled your PhD issue 'better than' he doesn't make his concern less trivial. When you are troubled, you don't care how many people in the world are dying of hunger or live in poverty - that is simply not your thorn in the flesh. Needless to say knowing that bigger problems exist in the world doesn't make your own disappear.
