*sleepily clocks in*
wrote 900 words today finishing my results section, finally finished the results section of chapter 4, been at it for days!!
made a figure that i triple checked containing most of my data for the chapter. made another table aswell.
i'm behind my "schedule" though...but hope i get more sections done this week .. and have a somewhat decent first draft of my thesis by 3rd of july.
tommorow i have to write a discussion for chapter 4 based on my rough draft.
and then start on another chapter, which 1/3 is done , and 2/3 needs to be done from scratch. so zero draft time.
i'm sleepy, off to bed for moi!
night night folks.
Hey great to hear the progress. I'm starting the intense writing stage now with all lab work etc behind me. Though I'm nearly 7 months pregnant so will not be submitting in sept. the plan is to get as much done now as possible before arrival of bambino then finish part time in the new year thereby aiming for submission by sept 09. Aim is 3 chapters written before bambino arrives- took last week off and sorted out my house, baby's room etc so today is writing day 1. I'm liking the fact I'm not alone in my write up!
celesmai, welcome!! please feel free to log in and update us with your writing progress on a daily basis in my diary thread i welcome the company!
and congratulations on the baby. nearly two months to go God willing, hope baby and mother are doing well today
i really admire the fact your writing up being 7 months pregnant. wow. good for you!
well i will certainly keep you company in the writing up stage
good luck!
so today is day 1 , what have you got planned to write up?
Aims for the day
Plan detail sections for chapter 1
Finish 1st 4 sections
Flow chart of research ideas
I know starting with intro is probablly silly but I feel I can quickly write it and then add to it at the end and I will feel that I have acheived something!
great! sounds like a good plan and aims, and i think its a good idea to start with something you want to write. it will make you feel better that you have done some writing for today. its always good to start with something you enjoy or is easy.
good luck!
okay i am gonna set my egg timer and see if i can get my discussion done in 30 minutes
Yeah today went well. I got my all my aims met- mananged to work quite focusedly. Worked quite productively from 11 to 4 with a workign lunch so very pleased. Hope each day is as successsful! Have a wedding tomorrow so taking the next 2 days off! Chapter 1 should be done by the end of the week! Happy days! Hope your day is going as sucessfully!
update from yesterday
in total worked productively for about 3 and half hours in total. the rest of the time, i took off, watched a film and just blew off some time and took an afternoon nap.
did 1,500 words for my discussion for chapter 4 yesterday.
but i want to add a few more stuff to it, so will just do that now , and give myself an hour maximum. and then start on my next chapter.
update from yesterday.
finalised chapter 4 yesterday: just need a few "style" corrections, which i will do next week. and a few grammer mistakes, nothing major though. so that's done and dusted now.

now i have 5 chapters left to do before july 4th.

I'm interested to know about any side effects people are experiencing through the writing up process. Some of mine:
Chronic procrastination, including:
constant web-surfing,
compulsive e-mail checking
Addiction to surfing for blogs about writing up phds
Cravings for junk food
Extremely messy flat
Telling friends I can't see them because I have to work
Desire/ mourning for social life

now i am reading this article about how to make procrastination work for you.

"3 - Do something. Anything!
Ever have a goal that was so challenging you were overwhelmed by it? Didn't even know where to start? Maybe felt a little ... uh ... procrastination setting in?
Put your attention on anything you can do that supports your goal, and do it - immediately. Find something else you can do - and do it. Again. And again. Just keep taking tiny steps. Do whatever you can do, whenever and however you can do it. You'll not only move from procrastination into action"
