occupational hazards of a PhD?

M

Actually it's quite alarming that so many PhD students declare to have problems with eating, either too much or too little.

I was thinking it's only my stupid, not very sophisticated way of dealing with stress.

What does it say? That studying is stressful above everything else? What about dangerous substances, biohazard, radioactivity, computer monitors damaging sight and so on?

P

verdy - if I could do that for you, I would do it in a heartbeat!

sue- I wasn't doing my Michael Jackson moonwalk, we were moving a table and I had the going backwards end!

DanB thats the best description of a phd that i have ever heard.

I find myself getting really resentful if anyone asks me to do something for them in my spare time. I hate that but can't help it.

I also talk about pcr in my sleep apparantly.

D

I think my phd is making me old. I was 27 when I started it and now I'm 30!!!!!!!!!

H

No, its made you younger, you're 18 now remember?

S

wow, DanB its the best of those lists that I have ever read and have to say it was a comprehensive one. When I started the post I only meant physical problems but the mental disaster is worse. I have grown really sloppy after starting my PhD. before I was full of energy and did so many things including a paid job which actually made me more active, so the weight gain and not being bothered about meals are both in.
