rubbish night...I hate Mr Muscle!

H

lol Juno!!!

Yes I remember the lovely smells of the lab, when I think back to my time as a synthetic chemist, I can still smell the smells of the lovely (Toluene ) and the yukky (Thiophenol ).

J

That's OK Sue, it was funny once the taste of artifical flowers had faded. It was a spray bottle but I unscrewed it. Needless to say this was in my drunken undergraduate days.

J

Oh yes H, thiophenol smells like the worst kind of fart doesn't it?

H

As my supervisor used to say to me "satan's bottom".

J

But at least you always get a seat on the bus when you've been using it

H

Yes but were detested by the rest of the company

We were ostrasized, I still suffer mentally from this experience.

J

One prof here swears that after 20 years as an organic chemist, he can't start the day without a quick blast of pyridine.

Check out the Sigma catalogue, you can by some minging smells for forensics work: synthetic vomit odour, corpse odour, yeeurgh

H

lol pyridine made me feel dizzy when I inhaled it outside the fume hood (did I mention I didn't really stick to health and saftey?). Good thing I'm not in the lab anymore

M

I remember when I used to do western blotting, there's a chemical you put on top of the gel to reduce bubbling (I think), and it smells like a mix of putrid fish an urinals. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Guys thank you so much your posts have really cheered me up ! Next time I have anything with garlic in I'll resist the temptation to use febreeze as a breath freshener though! Did have to go to A&E the next day as chest was much worse, turned out it had agravated the lining of my lungs From now on will be watching 'How clean is you house' for eco friendly cleaning tips! Or actually just closing oven door and ignoring the grime ..!
