The Ev is on a diet thread

Lmao, yes, I felt a bit like that :-) They are great though, neoprene are the best imo, they don't make you sweat and fit well - most of them have reflective areas too so that if you're running later in the year you get spotted!

me toooooo :-(

I want to lose around 2 stone. Been doing my 30 day shred DVD for the past week and a bit, as well as healthy eating. I lost 4 lb last week ;-).

Unfortunately I got a bit too tempted by the vending machine earlier when I bought two chocolate bars. Silly me :-(

Yay, go DanB :-)

Sneaks, do you have an ipod or a smart phone? If so then you can download either a podcast or an app which will tell you the times :-)  Either that or yes, you can glance at your watch as you're running. The podcasts are apparently great, music going, voice telling you when to run, when to walk.

Quote From sneaks:

ok I've had a look at couch 2 5k, but how do you know when 60 seconds is up!? - DO you continually stare at your watch? How do you avoid lamposts?

Hey all, I started the couch to 5k programme recently as well - getting on well with it so far - but the first few didn't half knock it of me and remind me what a couch potatoe I have become over the course of the PhD!

A guy called 'Robert Ullrey' has designed a set of free podcasts available on iTunes and called them (no points for originality) 'podcasts for running'. They are brilliant - he takes you along the whole programme and tells you when it is time to run/walk etc - with a bit of background music in between. The guy has become my new hero! I think he has a website as well if anyone on the forum doesn't use an ipod...

I know I would never have started it if it was down to me - like you sneaks, messing about with a watch would be a right pain - I can't go wrong with this, just download the weekly podcast and away uou go!

I'm trying to get to the 100 situps a day. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh I can just about manage 40 at the moment. On the plus side my tummy doesn't seem quite so all over the place.

S

Yay, C25K takes over the world :-) It is very good - a friend got me into it and I laughed at her.... the same friend then sent me a 10k one and I'm still looking very nervously at the later weeks and thinking something along the lines of errrr yeh.... ;-) But hey, she managed it and if she managed it then I can! She now considers running 5k to be a quick jog around the block rotten moo.

DanB, it will come :-) Don't forget to do reverse crunches as well as straight ones or you'll get all uneven. Its more about technique than number - I struggled with 10 when I started them but now can do quite a few more and they pull you in pretty quick - make sure you exercise your back too though, very important!

S

Oh, and do planks! You'll be amazed how much that will help you with the crunches :-) hold for as long as you can then repeat, you'll see the time you can hold them shoot up :-)

D

Dominos got the better of me :-(

Yoghurt and fruit tomorrow ! (turkey)

It's obvious to gain weight while most of us are on the desk most of the time. I do aerobics for 30-40 minutes in the morning. I could lose 5.5 lbs in 1.5 months :) The mission continues....

well I'm not supposed to go jogging, my spinal surgeon said it was a big NO, but then he also said I had to lose weight. And as I am plateuing after 3 weeks of 1000kcals a day, I've ordered an iphone arm band thing to start couch to 5k.

I must be more concerned with staring than most, because I'm currently trying to work out a 'jogging outfit' that will not show sweatyness or make me look like an idiot - all the joggers I see seem to think they suddenly have to dress in lots of lycra - not for me!

Wow I didn't realise that this thread would hit a nerve with so many forumites. Sneaks are you allowed to use the cross trainer instead of jogging? Stressed that is amazing progress -keep it up (up)
I achieved both goals 1 & 2 yesterday AND this morning my scales said that i was that I'm 0.7kg lighter!! Although I'm sure that's all just water.

So no gym today - just a long dog walk and then back to the gym tomorrow!!

Yeah I can us a cross trainer. I was going to buy one (I have a great recumbant exercise bike already) - but I can't afford it. And I don't see any point in joining a gym. I've been told not to use rowers, treadmills, weights of any kind, no sit ups etc etc. So that leaves me with bike (which I have already) and the cross trainer.

So I guess I'll try the jogging. If I end up in agony I'll stop, but I really want to lose a few stone by xmas.

I went away for the weekend and had (hangs head in shame) an indian takeaway, a meal out on the saturday and mcdonalds for lunch on sunday.

So back on the diet today. My armband thingy arrived and have persuaded hubby to do couch 2 5k thing, so we're going to start that at the weekend - he looks like a walking corpse he's so knackered from work at the mo, so don't want to make him do it after work this week.
