I've wasted most of summer applying to jobs and attending interviews - it takes SO much work, and they mainly go to internal candidates. Its defnitely worth tailoring each application though rather than sending the same thing off to everyone.
My supervisor didn't turn up :-( It was quite important to me because we were going to discuss my application. Grrr.
However I did bump into another lecturer from my research group who reminded me its the deadline tomorroe to submit an abstract for a conference he is organizing. My first goal for this afternoon is to get a draft of this written (to be redrafted and submitted first thing tomorrow morning).
thats rubbish star shaped. Although I didn't show my supervisor my applications at all for jobs, it meant I could 'big up' some of the smaller projects I'd worked on without her saying "now now, your role was smaller than that" lol.
I got to see my supervisor as she had got the time wrong and emailed me. She said my proposal is great but I just need to sell it a bit more and she's going to help me make a few changes to it. (up)
I also got my first goal of the afternoon done and emailed off my abstract. Now I'm going to go upto the lab to look through the data there to see if I can find any more examples of a phenomena I want to write about.
Well I've managed to get a very rough idea of what I want to say in my paragraph, but I'm trying to work in the middle of a house that has 4 other adults and a 6 year old, plus a cleaner hoovering around me - not done much today! :-(
oh dear! Are you staying with family? I escaped to the office this afternoon which is good because we've had a workman in stripping wallpaper.
My task of looking through the data in the lab isn't going to be as straightforward as I thought because I couldn't find any transcripts. I have emailed my supervisor as she may have some but otherwise its back to the drawing board.
My final goal for today is to look really carefully through my transcripts for examples of a particular phenomena. I've been finding it difficult looking for them but one jumped out at me during my supervision meeting so there must be some there!
yeah, not my family though, well in laws. I really need to go home and do this work :-( I've just done a better plan for the overall paper though.
I'm trying to rack my brains of things i could get on with, but can't think of anything!
Happy Friday everyone. Today is my first day this week with a clear diary to really get on with things. My first goal is to redo the analysis I originally planned to do yesterday.
I've not managed my first goal yet. :$ I'm finding the particular section which I should redo really difficult so I ended up starting another section instead. My goal now is to work on the difficult section up until lunch at 1.
I feel a bit silly being the only one posting on here but nevermind...
I'm all analysed out for now. I have an article to read so this is my next goal.
right, I've done the weekly shop, been for a long dog walk, spent about an hour putting all the weekly shop stuff into little sections in the freezer and I've had lunch. FINALLY I'm at my desk.
Goal 1: to look through paper and highlight areas for change.
Happy Monday everyone.
My supervisor has asked me to tart up my proposal a bit and to send it to her by the end of the day, so this is my first goal.
bad bad start, not done anything yet.
Goal 1: print out paper to look at
GOal 2: look through MY paper to see similarities/differences and how I can change it.
