Waited about ALL day yesterday for phone call and then had a 10 min chat at 4.30 which could have been an email :-s
Goal 1: Submit article to journal
======= Date Modified 04 Nov 2010 08:31:26 =======
I've sat here shaking my head, hence the delay in response .. what is he/she playing at ??
you wonder if the sup has understood your work?
either way and irrespective of the source of said looniness.. i would go for it. i seem to recall you saying previously that you are in a niche field with journals being sparse.
if this is the only issue and given what you've said you must submit the finding as they are .. suggestive of.
Version control is your fall back ... if persuasion and evidence are a lost cause ;-)
all the best for submission. sounds like journal is on your side and telling you what to change to get in.
thanks chuff!
Well we got rejected from the first journal - and they sent a brief 2-3 paragraphs on why and it was ALL around being far too leading in what we were saying we had done vs what had actually been measured - my concern all along.
So we are now aiming for another top-level journal.
I don't really get it as she has had top-level publications.
Think I'm going with mine, she probaby won't remember any way.
Off to read through the whole thing in case any other "our findings show that" sentences have slipped in.
That sounds really frustrating, Sneaks! I'm going to start writing a journal article soon (my first!) so I hope my supervisors listen to me a bit more than that!
Today's task: get my draft questionnaire finished. I have to send it to supervisors on Monday, but I'm off to a colloquium all day tomorrow and have a big family gathering for my Dad's seventieth birthday at the weekend, so it would be a relief to get it out of the way before I go.
Goal 1 - finish inputting all the draft questions and references into a table
Goal 2 - go through and edit obvious issues with questions
Goal 3 - tackle the main section I'm struggling with (need to build up to that one!!)

Sneaks, remember that it's your work and as you said, she probably won't remember anyway! And even if she did she'd only see it once its published, right? And that's the main thing...
I'm feeling quite alert after a gym session this morning but I know that because of the early start I'll be tired by this afternoon so I need to get some stuff out of the way this morning!
Goal 1- Finish rewriting CV. DONE.
Goal 2- Figure out why refworks doesn't like one of the documents I need to submit tomorrow. DONE. Had to type them manually. :-s
Goal 3- Get together 2 examples of my writing to submit with application tomorrow.
Goal 4- Work on analysis.
Goal 5- Not get too hammered at the monthly PhD meetup tonight. :p
Added Goal 6- Fill out application form to be submitted tomorrow. DONE
just submitted it to the next journal, with MY changes :p
But has taken AGES because they only tell you how long the article should be when you submit! Its not on the author guidelines, so had to trim it down - i.e I just moved the tables about a bit - hopefully it doesn't look too rubbish. Anyway That's done now :-)
Second goal of the day = coffee
Third goal = get on with the intro for my 3rd study. I'd like to get this done today!
Congrats Sneaks (up) Woohoo - very brave!!!
Well today should be a seminal day for me -I'll know one way or the other if the method I've chosen will work or if I need to o another route. So goal 1- chase up the guy I need to find ( I called him yesterday at 4 and left a message but he hasn't gotten back to me - when would you call him again??? I don't want to annoy him as he's doing me a favour but I need to see him today)
I just got back from a fairly long lunch break during which i went into town for Thai food.
I have realised that getting together the 2 samples of writing is going to take more work than I thought because I realised they want a 1 page abstract for each one. One of them is a journal article and has an abstract which is only 200 words so it needs to be longer. Sigh. My goal for this afternoon is to get these written, then to look over everything in my application pack and then to submit it.
I have written my abstracts.
NOW I have realised that the careers advisor I spoke to told me I should write a covering letter to go with it all. Damn, damn, damn. This is my next goal.
I hate covering letters!
I didn't do my goal 3. Instead I'm proofing hubbys PhD, but it needs to be done. I've also run on my treadmill so feel all healthy.
