I really couldn't concentrate on any more writing so I have marked 5 papers instead. I am leaving for the gym soon, with a final goal of marking 2 more papers once I get back.
ok, so I'm feeling slightly overwhelmed now, I have so many things to do for so many different projects and each seems more important than the other.
hopefully by mid-jan the pressure will be off for 2 of the main roles I'm doing. But I think its going to be working well into the night to get those things done for mid-jan.
I think its all feeling a lot worse because of my sore throat today :-(
I've typed up 30 pages of references today, leaving probably another 10 to do. Must relax and sleep now, then press on tomorrow...erm...later today.
Morning!
Today it is just me, the cat, my journal paper, grant applications and a pile of marking. Finding it hard to decide where to start. :-(
OK so my first goal is to go back to the summary section of my grant application and to get a full draft written.
hmm, I'm supposed to be doing RA work today, but my sup hasn't called to tell me what needs to be done and I've just called her's without any response, but then it is probably her kids first day back at school. Will have to wait until she's around as don't want to get into PhD and then have to stop after 13 mins or something. :-s
Sneaks, your workload and the way your supervisor expects you to manage it seems crazy to me - seems like you can't plan your work in advance, and that's no use to anyone.
Today's goals are
1.) work through the notes I've made on literature read since I last updated my literature review
2.) have a brainstorming session around my draft questionnaire
3.) book meeting room for important meeting
4.) book dentists appointment to get wisdom tooth looked at
(Those last two added because I meant to do them yesterday but forgot!)
It is annoying. She's still not answering, so I have no idea if she is currently travelling into my uni or not. I'm at home with a horrible cold so not going in.
I'm going to try and get on with another project, but I just know she'll ring just once I've got my head into it.
Sneaks you have my sympathy, at my peak of work before Christmas I was committed to odds & sods for five freelance projects for four different people, from two institutions, on and one is my supervisior. Some were small jobs, say a morning once a forntnight, but this was on top of my f/t PhD. I really could have done with a line management meeting with myself (!) to prioritise it all as of course everyone's work was the most important/urgent. needless to say I'm planning to to cut back this year.
My goals today: to read at least 2 chapters from book I got out of the library before christmas and to get my head round what's required for ethics.
I hope you're getting on OK Sneaks, it sounds very frustrating.
I am getting there slowly with the summary section. There is still more to do but I'll come back to it tomorrow. My next goal is to make a start on the 'impact summary' and 'academic beneficiaries' sections.
I'm really struggling today. I think I was expecting another amazing day of writing like yesterday, but it's just not happening! I was hoping to write 3 key sections today, but I'm still plodding along with key point 1 (and I only seem to be able to concentrate on writing until 2pm!) But I'm going to try and get key point 1 done, then key point 3 which is only short, and will probably leave key point 2 until tomorrow. Grr!
