Right, that's everything done for today :)
Husband and I have decided to take a trip out to yorkshire and go to a yarn shop as I think I deserve some yarn after the tough chapter I've just worked on for the last three weeks. So I am excited about tomorrow, yarns! (Sorry, I have an addiction to yarns, I am a granny trapped in a 30-something's body).
It's actually feeling nice to know that there are a few of us that have similar deadline of this summer. That will really keep me motivated. So what stages of the thesis writing are well all on?
I have three chapters completed, another chapter that probably needs about half a week to week's work. The others are all up in the air still. I have at least 3 chapters and intro & conclusion chapters to write from scratch. Another two are semi-written but requires a lot of restructuring.
Enjoy your day off!
Maybe those of us with similar deadlines can create another thread to keep up with each other. I have 2 chapters written so far. These are quite long though. One chapter I have a deadline for next month but haven't even thought about it yet but it shouldn't be too challenging (I hope). One is still up in the air. I have been writing bits of my literature review as I go along and once I am free from grant application hell I'll start getting that together!
Right, I have done my references. I am now going to put together the justification of resources for project 2. And then finish at a reasonable time, yay!
That's a good idea - I'm fairly new to the forum but am in my FINAL year!! I longed to be writing up but now that I'm am, am finding the going pretty darn stressful. I have 1st drafts of three chapters done out of a total of, I think just six. I have about 38,000 words of 80,000 down so word-count wise (and that's all my hubby factors in!!) less than half.
Hi Pink Numbers - Its sounds like a fab idea to get away for the weekend and have a break doing something else you enjoy. Would love to do so too but need a childminder for the weekend and that is a huge order lol. Oh well I will keep dreaming.
I have 7 chapters all written but am editing/formatting although only ch 6 and 7 discussions to finish now. I have figures to add but all tables and appendices are done. Cannot wait to be able to produce the final version. Not sure how long this phase is going to take me........?!? Would love to see the end of this now :-s
Spent the evening sorting out editing inconsistencies, formating refs in the text to Harvard system and updating the stats in a summary table that I had forgotten to include :$ Feels like I have spent a few hours on this and not really making much difference, guess that is what editing is all about!
Tomorrow afternoon I plan to edit ch 6.
Morning everyone. My first thought when my alarm went off was "I don't need to do anything desperately today, I can go back to sleep for a while" but then I remembered my deadlines!
My first goal today is to tidy up and address my mentor's comments on the academic sections of my first application.
Hah, Star-shaped, I quite often have thoughts like that when I wake up!
My cold is no better today but I have to keep pushing through. Not going to kill myself with work today though. Two goals - firstly, to write a detailed plan for the journal article I've been trying to write for months, and secondly, to look at the set-up of an online survey a colleague's developed to give her feedback and to get an idea about how the software works.
I feel so stressed out. I'm usually starving by now but have a knot in my stomach and think I'll struggle to eat lunch.
I have now sorted out all of the academic stuff for the application and put it into the JeS system. My next goal is to sort out and to upload the attachments.
Attachments (except the one which is currently with the research office) done. My next goal is to phone the ESRC and the research office and to do any other bits on the form which I need to do. And to try and breathe....
Sounds like you're making good progress!
I've ground to a halt. I seem to have developed a block when it comes to writing this journal paper - I've been trying for months. I think I need to just try to blast it out and see what I can do once I have a crappy draft to work from. But not sure that today will be the day I manage this - my cold is getting worse and my whole head feels muffled up, so doing anything involving actual thought is a struggle!
Oh well. Maybe I'll leave that work until I'm feeling better and get on with something else instead.
Hi all, well babies are now with childminder so I can start editing ch6. Motivation is waning now though, was good to go this morning but chance of concentrating was zero, arghh!
Star-Shaped - sounds like you are having a tough time, I am amazed at what you have acheived - well done!
Batfink - hope your feeling better soon.
Thanks Dunni. I think I have done all I can with the application for now. I am just waiting for feedback from a member of the research office on one of the attachments and then I think I may be all done!
My next goal is to put together an abstract for the PG conference in my department next month.
Abstract done. It actually only took me about 15 minutes but got distracted with an email from the research office, and decided to have a break to work out.
My next goal is to address the comments on my JoR document from the research office.
Comments on JoR addressed. Gosh working out costs and things is fiddly and stressful.
I could now do with starting to address the comments my supervisor made on the case for support for application 2 but I'm reluctant to start anything that could potentially be stressful so late in the day. I'll see what I can do and will at least make sure all the references are in Refworks (which they won't be as my sup added loads in) if nothing else.
