Just to clarify, I didn't read the theses (yikes no!!) but I skimmed them looking for how they applied the concept. I skimmed them online and did a word search for what I was looking for. I deliberately chose ones way outside my area. The idea being that here is other disciplines which have used this concept and now I'm going to now apply it (for the first time I think and hope!) in my discipline. What I wanted was (a) I did this, (b) I did that and so on. It's amazing how many theses, presumably passed ones, which actually don't tell you in clear language how the person went about things. In fact I beginning to wonder if mine is too basic coz that's my approach :-(
Morning all. I didn't mean to get up quite this early but never mind.
My first goal is to scan in a chunk of the inter library loan which is due back today before my OH starts work and needs his laptop.
Morning everybody.
Yesterday I managed to add 650 words to my literature review update, which I will continue to develop today. The target is to add at least the same amount of words and possibly more.
Finally I am starting to feel a little bit more positive after a long time.
Have a good day!
Perfectionism is possibly the main reason for delaying the achievement of the PhD, beside with procrastination....I know it by experience!
I have now scanned and showered. My goal for today is to get my whole analysis close to the final version. There is one section which I haven't been redrafting as I wanted to leave to the end so my first goal is to tackle that.
I have to re-do my 1 page :-( but not really sure how, apparently it has to be more technical, but I don't really get why. And I'd structured it around my 3 studies, and apparently it just has to be an overview of the thesis - not by study :-( so confused!
Morning all
Sneaks, that sounds really frustrating!
Overslept a little this morning but not much of a surprise given how many late nights I've worked this week! Feeling in a much better position about the ridiculous amounts of work I'm trying to do - working so hard this week has paid off, it seems.
Goals for today
1.) Think about presentation before academic I'm co-presenting with phones to talk it through!
2.) Go back to my a&o/gaps in lit and check I know how I'm measuring everything I intend to look at
3.) Write summary sheet showing what I'm measuring and how
4.) Revise questionnaire
That's bad luck Sneaks. Could it be that your thesis is looking at 'x' and to research this you chose 3 specific studies. Therefore in the greater scheme of things it is not these 3 studies that are important per se, but rather your overarching hypothesis or research question of the thesis?? The 3 studies are just your 'way in' to investigating whatever it is that you are investigating? Or maybe I'm way off??
I have no idea! I've now written a non-tehnical version, but still with an overview (i.e. general research problem) and then by study. I think what she's getting at, is what does it add to the field. I don't really get why the bloke has to see this anyway. :-s I wouldn't be surprised if it was her lame-ass attempt of getting me to think more about the overall contribution - but I hate being tricked like that so if it is I'll be in a right mood!
That sounds annoying Sneaks, I hope it isn't too much of a pain to write.
I have really low concentration levels today. I have flitted between my analysis and introduction for my chapter and am now fed up of the whole thing. I'm going to move on to my presentation and finish drafting out the analysis bits.

So so tired now, and not thinking sharply any more, so I'm going to call it a day I think. Back to it tomorrow for a few hours, then off to watch rugby and then have a girlie film night with some friends. And then more work on Sunday. Ah well, it'll be worth it when I get past my nasty deadlines next week and everything feels more under control!
Have a good weekend everyone!
